Fox Doesn't Believe He'll Live to Be 80 as He Battles Parkinson's Disease https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/michael-j-fox-doesnt-believe-hell-live-to-be-80-as-he-battles-parkinsons-disease/3247415/ 3247415 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/05/GettyImages-1473574705.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Michael J. Fox just made a heartbreaking prediction about himself amid his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

“You don’t die from Parkinson’s. You die with Parkinson’s,” the Back to the Future actor said on CBS This Morning April 30. “I’m not gonna be 80. I’m not gonna be 80.”

Fox, 61, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which has affected his movement and caused tremors and slurred speech, in the ’90s. He has since largely put acting aside to focus on his work with the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which aims to find a cure for Parkinson’s. Meanwhile, his disease has progressed. As he said on CBS This Morning, “Every day, it’s tougher.”

Over the years, the actor has suffered many other health scares, some related to Parkinson’s and some not.

“I had spinal surgery. I had a tumor on my spine and it was benign,” Fox said on CBS Sunday Morning, appearing to reference a 2018 procedure. “Then I started to break stuff. I broke this arm and I broke this arm, I broke this elbow, I broke my face, I broke my hand.”

Great Scott! 30 Back to the Future Secrets Revealed

The actor continued, “Falling and aspirating food and pneumonia. All these subtle ways that gets ya.”

Fox, a five-time Emmy winner and recipient of a 2022 honorary Oscar, rose to fame in the ’80s, playing Alex P. Keaton on the sitcom Family Ties and Marty McFly in the Back to the Future films. He said on CBS Sunday Morning that he recently watched the original movie for the first time since 1987. The actor recalled wife Tracy Pollan’s reaction.

“She said, ‘You’re watching Back to the Future?” he recalled. “‘Yeah, you know, I’m really good in it.'”

Tracy, who has been married to Michael since 1988, shares four kids with the actor—Sam Fox, 33, twins Aquinnah Fox and Schuyler Fox, 28, and Esmé Fox, 21. The Spin City star appears with his family in a new Apple TV+ documentary about his life, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, which is set to begin streaming May 12.

Regarding his outlook on his life, Fox told CBS Morning that he realized that “with gratitude, optimism is sustainable.” He added, “If you find something to be grateful for, then you find something to look forward to and you carry on.”

Jerry Springer Died of Cancer, Rep Says https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/jerry-springers-cause-of-death-revealed/3246577/ 3246577 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2019/09/Jerry-Springer-GettyImages-470524661.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,169 More details about Jerry Springer‘s cause of death have been confirmed.

The legendary broadcast host, who helmed “The Jerry Springer Show” for 27 years, died of pancreatic cancer, his representative and friend Jean Galvin told NBC News.

Springer passed away at his suburban Chicago home on April 27 following what his family described as a brief illness, per their statement to E! News. He was 79.

“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Galvin said on behalf of Springer’s family in a statement obtained by E! News. “He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”

Following news of his death, Maury Povich paid tribute to the talk show host, describing him as a “joyful, smart and, in his own way, a unique showman.”

Jerry Springer’s Life in Pictures

“I am shocked and saddened by the passing of Jerry,” Maury said in a statement to E! News. “He was not only a colleague but a friend. We worked for the same company for decades. I will miss him.”

Springer was also honored with a billboard outside his studio in Connecticut featuring his catchphrase, “Take care of yourself and each other.”

The studio was one of the former filming locations for “The Jerry Springer Show,” which ran from 1991 to 2018. The show saw Springer mediate confrontations and feuds in front of a live audience, who would chant “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!” during tense moments.

While he once said he doesn’t take his “silly” show that “seriously,” he told Reuters in 2000 that he’ll also defend its significance.

“When people argue about the show intellectually,” he said at the time, per NBC, “then I’m prepared to answer about why I think it is OK to do it and why I think it’s important that shows like that are on the air.”

Springer also held hosting gigs at “Judge Jerry,” “Tabloid With Jerry Springer,” “Baggage” and “America’s Got Talent.” However, he stepped out of his hosting duties to compete in “Dancing With the Stars” in 2006 and “The Masked Singer” in 2022.

Before he became a television staple, Springer served as the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio from 1977 to 1978 and anchored Cincinnati television station WLWT in the ’80s and ’90s.

Springer is survived by his 47-year-old daughter Katie Springer, who he shared with ex-wife Micki Velton.

Meghan Markle's Next Hollywood Career Move Is Revealed https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/meghan-markles-next-hollywood-career-move-is-revealed/3246080/ 3246080 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1447257861.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Meghan Markle is enlisting help from Hollywood royalty.

The Duchess of Sussex has signed for representation with William Morris Endeavor, the talent agency confirmed to E! News on April 27. Archewell, the organization and content creation brand she founded with husband Prince Harry in 2020, will also be represented by WME moving forward.

Markle’s team now includes powerhouse agents Ari Emanuel, Brad Slater and Jill Smoller, whose combined client list boasts the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Serena Williams.

The partnership will focus on Markle’s business and creative ventures—but not on acting, according to Variety.

News of the deal comes three years after Markle, 41, and Harry, 38, stepped back as working members of the British royal family and relocated to California.

Since the transatlantic move, they’ve signed a production deal with Spotify—part of which includes Meghan’s Archetypes podcast—and released a docu-series titled Harry & Meghan under their multi-year partnership with Netflix.

Meghan Markle Through the Years

The pair also welcomed daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana in June 2021, expanding their family that includes son Archie Harrison, now 3.

On May 6, Markle will miss her in-laws King Charles III and Queen Camilla‘s coronation in London in order to celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday, which falls on the same day, at home. However, a rep for the couple confirmed to E! News that Harry will still be attending the crowning ceremony.

A spokesperson for Markle also recently debunked a report that the Suits alum was skipping the royal gathering over allegations of unconscious bias in the family around the time of her and Harry’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. (During the sit-down with Oprah, Meghan alleged that “several conversations” were had with Harry and an unidentified royal about “how dark” their firstborn child’s skin would be.)

“The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago,” her spokesperson told E! News in an April 22 statement. “Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous.”

Ed Sheeran Plays Guitar for New York Jury During ‘Let's Get It On' Copyright Trial https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/ed-sheeran-on-guitar-gets-musical-with-a-new-york-jury-during-copyright-trial/3245919/ 3245919 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/AP23117790095162.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 In a packed New York courtroom, Ed Sheeran picked up his guitar Thursday and launched into a tune that has him locked in a copyright dispute over Marvin Gaye’s soul classic “Let’s Get it On” as the only audience that mattered — a jury — looked on.

Sheeran was an hour into testimony in Manhattan federal court when his lawyer, Ilene Farkas, pressed him to tell how he came to write “Thinking Out Loud” a decade ago.

He reached back, grabbed his guitar from a rack behind the witness stand and explained that writing a song was second nature to him. He said he used his own version of phonetics to create songs so quickly that he could write up to nine in a day. Even last weekend, Sheeran claimed, he wrote 10 songs.

Then he sang just a few words of the pivotal tune, bringing smiles to the faces of some of the spectators in the courtroom of Judge Louis L. Stanton.

“I’m singing out loud,” he sang, loud enough to be heard but not raising decibels in the court.

After he finished singing those words, he spoke a few too, saying “and then words fall in” as he tried to teach the jury his method of creating music. He said he collaborated on the song with a co-writer, Amy Wadge, who wrote the opening chords.

Though he’s performed with some of the world’s great artists and become a regular at music award shows by age 32, he said from the witness stand with his chair tilted toward the jury: “I’m not the world’s most talented guitar player.”

And when he bumped his hand against the witness stand microphone, he said a quick “sorry.”

Then he launched into the song that heirs of Ed Townsend, Gaye’s co-writer on “Let’s Get It On,” say has “striking similarities” and “over common elements” to the famed 1973 Gaye musical treasure.

“When your legs don’t work like they used to,” he sang earnestly, like he might go deeper into the song. Then, after just a few bars, he abruptly placed the guitar back in the rack behind him as his lawyer told the judge it was an appropriate spot to adjourn for the week.

Two days earlier, he had been called to testify by attorneys for the plaintiffs and was adamant in telling jurors that he and Wadge came up with the song without copying anyone else’s music.

He had also said a video that showed he had segued on stage between “Thinking Out Loud” and “Let’s Get It On” was not unusual, adding it was “quite simple to weave in and out of songs” that are in the same key.

On Thursday, his lawyer posed friendly questions, eliciting from Sheeran how he became interested in music after joining a church choir with his mother when he was 4.

Sheeran appeared self deprecating as he told his story, saying: “I can’t read music. I’m not classically trained in anything.”

He said he quit school at 17 so he could perform up to three times a night, playing anywhere that would have him, from bingo halls to restaurants to “anywhere nobody was.”

Within a decade, he was performing with some of the biggest names in music, from Taylor Swift to the Rolling Stones, 50 Cent to Eric Clapton.

Before long, he said, he was writing eight or nine songs a day, explaining: “When inspiration hits, you get excited and it just comes out.”

Near the end of his testimony, Sheeran was asked by his lawyer why an expert called by the plaintiffs had tried to show how chords in “Thinking Out Loud” resemble “Let’s Get It On.”

“He was saying that because it helps his argument,” Sheeran said.

The trial resumes Monday.

James Corden Reveals the One ‘Carpool Karaoke' Guest He Could Never Book https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/james-corden-reveals-the-one-carpool-karaoke-guest-he-could-never-book/3245887/ 3245887 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-846294726.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,206 James Corden has recruited an all-star roster of artists to perform on “Carpool Karaoke” over the years, but there is one name he couldn’t land: Paul Simon.

The “Late Late Show” host, who will end his run on the late-night program after eight years off April 27, says he always wanted Simon to appear on the show’s signature segment.

“I adore him,” he told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show on April 26.

Corden, who has also said he wanted the artist formerly known as Kanye West to appear on “Carpool Karaoke,” then explained his personal connection to Simon, noting how his “first experience singing in a car” came when he, his sisters and their parents would go on long road trips for vacations.

“They are some of my most joyous memories and the particular album of those road trips was ‘Graceland,’” he said. “And my mom would just be asleep and the four of us would just sing every single word.”

Corden, 44, said “Graceland” had an enormous impact on him, with one song in particular speaking to him.

“For me, that album, I think, might be perfect,” he said.

“You know that song ‘Gumboots’ where he’s got a lyric where he says, ‘You don’t feel you could love me, but I feel you could,’ which I think sums up how any sort of stereotypically unattractive boy at the age of 14 or 15 feels about every girl at their school at the time.

Corden said that line stuck in his head as something that would be ideal for “Carpool Karaoke.”

“I had this idea where I would just give anything to drive around in a car with Paul Simon and I had this idea that I would maybe try and surprise my mom and dad and my sisters and that we’d all get in this car and sing this song, but Paul … he’s hard to get,” he said.

“He’s hard to get — as he should be.”

Simon aside, “Carpool Karaoke” featured some of the biggest names in music sitting in a car with Corden, talking and singing their biggest hits.

Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, the Jonas Brother, Elton John, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles all appeared over the years. His final guest was Adele.

Corden’s run as host of “The Late Late Show” ends when the final episode airs Thursday, April 27, on CBS.

All the Details on Rihanna's New Role as Smurfette in ‘The Smurfs Movie' https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/all-the-details-on-rihannas-new-role-as-smurfette-in-the-smurfs-movie/3246805/ 3246805 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1485848535.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,213 This latest news is blue-tiful.

Rihanna is set to star as Smurfette in “The Smurfs Movie” for Paramount network. Along with acting in the film, the “Needed Me” singer will also serve as a producer as well as write and perform original music.

“I tried to get the Papa Smurf part but it didn’t work out.” Rihanna joked after announcing the news at CinemaCon April 27, per Deadline. “This is a delight. Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me. I’m usually front and center with everything, but with this I get to play a part and a role and I get to imagine. I get to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester and get to play a little blue badass.”

She added, “I hope this gives me a little bit of cool points with my kids one day.”

Paramount Pictures’ President and CEO Brian Robbins echoed the 35-year-old’s excitement. “We couldn’t be more excited to have found our Smurfette,” he said in a press release the same day, “in one of the most beloved stars in the world.”

A Look at Rihanna’s Pregnancy Style

This animated film will follow the 2011 “Smurfs” movie and 2013 sequel, “The Smurfs 2,” both starring Neil Patrick Harris along with Katy Perry as Smurfette.

Rihanna’s latest role comes a month after she took the stage at the 2023 Oscars to perform her Best Original Song nominee “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” One month prior, the Grammy winner put on an epic half time performance during Super Bowl LVI, where she subtly announced she’s expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky, by debuting her baby bump. Rihanna’s rep later confirmed the pregnancy to E! News.

The couple are already parents to a baby boy born in May 2022, and Rihanna has since share glimpses of motherhood with her fans.

“When you become a mom,” Rihanna explained during a press conference in February ahead of the football event, “there’s just something that just happens where you feel like you can take on the world, you can do anything and the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world.”

As for her boyfriend? Well, A$AP Rocky couldn’t help but call the Fenty Beauty owner “the love of my life” during an interview with GQ in 2021.

“She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones,” the rapper gushed. “I think when you know, you know. She’s the One.”

However, viewers have a ways to go before The Smurfs Movie warms their hearts as it’s set to hit theaters February 14, 2025.

Christina Ashten Gourkani, OnlyFans Model and Kim Kardashian Look-Alike, Dead at 34 https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/christina-ashten-gourkani-onlyfans-model-and-kim-kardashian-look-alike-dead-at-34/3245347/ 3245347 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/Christina-Ashten-Gourkani.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,168 Christina Ashten Gourkani, an OnlyFans model who also promoted herself as a Kim Kardashian look-alike, has died after suffering a cardiac arrest, her family says. She was 34 years old.

“In the early morning hours at approximately 4:31am on 4/20/2023 our family received a tragic phone call from a family member who was frantically screaming and crying…on the other end of the line….Ashten is dying…Ashten is dying…” her loved ones wrote on a GoFundMe for her on April 25. “After arriving at the hospital shortly after the phone call our family continued living a nightmare as we were informed that her health and wellbeing had continued to decline in a downward spiral for the worse after suffering from a cardiac arrest.”

The family added that the model’s death followed a “medical procedure that took a turn for the worse.”

No further details were provided. Gourkani’s family included a loving tribute to her in the message.

“If you knew Ashten you knew that everyone mattered to her,” they wrote. “She was such a caring and loving free spirit that always took the time to bring a smile to anyone’s face she crossed paths with. She was the kind of person that would kneel down and talk to children at eye level, she searched for the lonely person in the corner and made them feel special as she has such a gift of connecting with people.”

The family addressed the late model directly in their tribute. “Christina Ashten Gourkani I hope there is a place in heaven where you can feel the amount of our grief and the emptiness of our broken hearts, that we feel without you in our lives,” they wrote. “We love you so much Chrissy.”

The model’s loved ones are trying to raise donations to help pay for her funeral.

“We ask in this time of mourning our loss & disbelief that people can come together to help our family make it through this, when there is not enough strength,” their message stated. “We are grateful for the support that you are able to provide to our family as we lay Christina Ashten Gourkani to eternal peace.”

Priyanka Chopra Shares What Nick Jonas Told Her the Day Daughter Malti Was Born https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/priyanka-chopra-shares-what-nick-jonas-told-her-the-day-daughter-malti-was-born/3246719/ 3246719 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1483100263.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,206 Priyanka Chopra is peeling back the layers on her private life.

The “Citadel” actress recently gave rare insight into her family with husband Nick Jonas and daughter Malti, recalling how the musician provided support for her upon learning the baby girl, who was born via surrogate, had arrived prematurely.

“I remember he just held me by my shoulders, and I said, ‘Just tell me what to do, because I don’t know what to do,'” Chopra told Today‘s Hoda Kotb for a Spring 2023 cover issue. “And he’s like, ‘Just get into the car with me.’ And we drove to the hospital. She was born, and from the moment she took her first breath to now, she’s never been without one of us, ever.”

Malti would end up staying more than 100 days in the NICU, a period of time where Chopra said she “had to be her strength as her mom.”

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s Family Photos With Daughter Malti

“I don’t think it was our test. I think it was her test,” she shared. “I realized very, very early that I did not have the luxury to be scared or to be weak, because she was scared and weak… I needed to make her feel at every given moment that she’s not alone.”

Now, 15-month-old Malti is doing well: Chopra told Today that her baby girl is still comforted by the Hindi lullabies that she sang to her in the NICU, which are also the same tunes that the “Quantico” alum’s mom devoted to her in her childhood.

As for Malti’s future, Chopra said she and Jonas want Malti to be bilingual in Hindi and English.

Though Chopra’s family life blossoms more day by day, it wasn’t what she initially imagined when she met Jonas, who she said she underestimated at first.

“I didn’t give it much of a chance because, I was like, ‘He’s 25 years old, he’s a rockstar. I want to get married, I want to settle down, I want to have a baby.’ I was 35 at the time,” she explained. “I wanted stability, and I didn’t give Nick enough credit until I went out with him on our first date. We spent the whole evening together, and I realized my husband is just like an old soul. He’s stability in human form.”

After being together for over five years, Chopra only has burnin’ love for her man.

“He’s my cheerleader,” Chopra said of the Jonas Brothers artist. “He’s the most secure man I’ve ever been with. He gets extremely excited at my wins. He takes off my extensions at the end of the night. He fixes my dress when I walk off stage and makes sure it looks right when I’m on the carpet. He brings me my coffee first thing in the morning.”

And he continues to be the whole package.

“He’s just so even-tempered, can handle anything thrown at him,” she added, “And also has the ability to be vulnerable with me. I feel safe with my husband. I wish that for everyone.”

E!, this television station and Today are all part of the NBCUniversal family.

Angelina Jolie, Chloe Kim, Joanna Gaines Among Stars at WH State Dinner https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/angelina-jolie-chloe-kim-joanna-gaines-among-stars-at-wh-state-dinner/3245244/ 3245244 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/image-80.png?fit=300,169&quality=85&strip=all Actor Angelina Jolie, home improvement duo Chip and Joanna Gaines and Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim headlined the list of big names from politics, business, sports and entertainment glamming up a fancy black-tie dinner that President Joe Biden hosted Wednesday for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Broadway’s Lea Salonga, one of the night’s entertainers, confessed as she arrived that she was “freaking out” over the whole experience, allowing, “It feels like being in the middle of a fairy tale.” Kim, for her part, served up a classic understatement as she strolled in, telling reporters, ”I heard the food’s going to be very good.” Jolie wasn’t inclined to chat as she arrived in a vintage Chanel jacket and a flowing cream gown, but her date, 21-year-old son Maddox, at least offered that his favorite thing about Seoul was “the people.”

A smattering of politicians made the guest list, too, and most were determinedly on message, talking a lot of shop. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., held forth on infrastructure, debt reduction and the budget. Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif., talked abortion rights. Former Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, a big Democratic donor from Illinois, talked up plans for the Democratic convention in Chicago in 2024, promising, “of course” it will go well.

Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, proudly showed off her traditional hanbok gown, saying it was important to showcase cultural diversity. She added that the big challenge was “not to trip over it.”

Also among the nearly 200 guests were Arthur Blank, a co-founder of Home Depot; “Pachinko” author Min Jin Lee; and former Major League Baseball pitcher Chan Ho Park. Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah also attended, as did the governors of Delaware, New Jersey and Vermont.

On a perfect spring evening, guests entered the White House by strolling through the Jacqueline Kennedy garden in the East Wing and being directed to a cocktail reception before dinner in the East Room, where tables were topped with towering centerpieces of cherry tree boughs in full bloom. On the menu: crabcakes, beef ribs and banana splits.

While most guests were strolling in through the garden, Biden and wife Jill welcomed Yoon and wife Kim Keon Hee on a red carpet on the steps of the North Portico, where the president flashed a thumbs-up for the assembled cameras. Kim wore a cream-colored jacket over her gown, which was also creamy. Jill Biden wore a mauve sheath gown by Reem Acra.

In their toasts before dinner, President Biden said he believed Yoon’s visit had “brought two nations even closer together.”

Yoon, for his part, nodded to Biden’s Irish heritage and love of Irish poets.

“There’s an old saying, and Mr. President, this one is also Irish, that goes: A good friend is like a four-leaf clover, hard to find and lucky to have,” Yoon said, offering a toast to our “ironclad alliance.”

Guests seated at the head table with the presidents and first ladies included Jolie and her son, the Gaineses, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Chloe Kim.

The first lady, who oversaw planning for the administration’s second state dinner, recruited Korean American celebrity chef Edward Lee to whip up a Korean-inspired menu. Lee is known for putting his Korean stamp on American food.

“It’s not traditional Korean food but just gives you a little hint of Korean flavors,” he said this week as the White House previewed the dinner setup.

The crabcake appetizer was served with a cabbage, kohlrabi, fennel and cucumber slaw dressed with a vinaigrette made using gochujang, a red chili paste and a bowl of chilled yellow squash soup. The braised beef short rib main course was paired with sorghum-glazed carrots and served on a bed of grits made from butter beans instead of corn.

Dessert is a deconstructed banana split, an American classic, featuring lemon bar ice cream, caramelized bananas, fresh berries and mint ginger snap cookie crumble drizzled with a caramel sauce infused with doenjang, a fermented soybean paste.

Guests were ushered to the State Dining Room at the other end of the State Floor after dinner for entertainment by Broadway stars Salonga, Norm Lewis and Jessica Vosk.

Lewis, for all his experience, said he still gets nervous performing at big events.

“Oh God, always nerves,” he said. “But you know what? It’s for a good cause and I’m very excited to be here.” He sang ”This is the Moment” from “Jekyll and Hyde.” Yoon got in on the action, singing a rendition of “American Pie,” one of his favorite songs, to raucous applause.

Biden then surprised Yoon with the gift of a guitar signed by Don McLean, who wrote “American Pie.”

One guest who displayed not one ounce of nerves: Schumer, D-N.Y., who wore a navy business suit rather than a tuxedo, and shrugged, “This is as tux-ey as I get.”

Chip Gaines demurred when asked if he had any decorating tips for the White House, but added that for wife Joanna, “the white interior and exterior is just her thing.” Joanna Gaines’ mother is Korean.

A state visit, including an arrival ceremony on the South Lawn and a sparkly state dinner, is the highest diplomatic honor the U.S. bestows on its closest allies. Yoon was visiting as the U.S. and South Korea mark the 70th year of an alliance that began at the end of the Korean War and committed the U.S. to help South Korea defend itself, particularly from North Korea. Approximately 28,500 U.S. troops are currently based in South Korea.

Biden’s first invitation for a state visit went to France last year and President Emmanuel Macron was toasted at a black-tie dinner last December with more than 300 guests inside a heated pavilion erected on the south grounds of the White House.

Why Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen Keep Their 3 Kids Out of the Spotlight https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/why-isla-fisher-and-sacha-baron-cohen-keep-their-3-kids-out-of-the-spotlight/3244995/ 3244995 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/AP21116073621032.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,214 Confession of a movie star? Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen aren’t looking to put their kids on the ‘gram.

While the “Wedding Crashers” actress and “Borat” actor are not strangers to life in the public eye, the pair are largely private when it comes to life with their three kids, Olive, 15, Elula, 12, and Montgomery, 8. The decision to keep them out of the limelight is one that Isla has thought about a lot.

“It’s unfair on them!” Fisher explained during an April 26 appearance on “Lorraine,” as seen in a clip published by the Daily Mail. “Kids deserve a normal childhood. I want them to be outdoors and play and run around [and] not feel self-conscious.”

Inside Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Date Night at the 2021 Oscars

And Fisher’s made a point of not posting about her kids on social media or taking them to premieres and other Hollywood events.

“If you speak about your children or if you take them to a red carpet event, you can’t be litigious later on when there is a picture of them in something and say, ‘hey, they deserve anonymity,’ but they do,” Fisher told Today Parents in 2017. “They have rights, too. It’s a very conscious decision and truly I would feel really disgusting about myself if I used my family to sell something. It wouldn’t sit right with me. It doesn’t line up with my values.”

While the “Confessions of a Shopaholic” star prefers to keep the topic of her children private, she doesn’t shy away from sharing about her marriage to Baron Cohen, who she has been in a relationship with for over 20 years.

Reflecting on the advice she would give to other couples, Fisher exclusively told E! News in June, “I don’t want to stand on a soapbox and advise anybody,” before noting, “if you marry someone that you have a really good friendship with, everything else seems to fall into place.”

At the time, Fisher shared that she still has giddy feelings towards her husband after two decades together.

“You still get butterflies in your stomach and people sort of tell you that wears off after a few years,” she said. “But when you’re with the right person, actually it just doesn’t.”

Aubrey Plaza Is Facing Backlash for ‘Wood Milk' Dairy Industry Ad https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/aubrey-plaza-is-facing-backlash-for-wood-milk-dairy-industry-ad/3244628/ 3244628 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/Screen-Shot-2023-04-26-at-2.58.45-PM.png?fit=300,201&quality=85&strip=all A “White Lotus” star is facing backlash over a different kind of plant entirely.

On April 20, a video by the dairy industry marketing firm Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP) starring Aubrey Plaza was posted on YouTubesocial media and Plaza’s own Instagram. In the ad, which has been viewed over 3.4 million times on the platform, the upcoming “Agatha: Coven of Chaos” actor attempts to sell her audience on a product called “Wood Milk.”

“Have you ever looked at a tree and thought, ‘Can I drink this?’” Plaza says at the start of the video. She stares at a tree in an orchard pensively as upbeat music plucks away. “I did.”

Plaza then introduces herself as the co-founder of Wood Milk, “the world’s first and only milk made from wood.” As she speaks, the actor can be seen posing serenely with logs, sprinkling herself with wood shavings and photographing trees up close in that “she’s doing something odd but in a captivating fashion” Plaza is known for.

“Our Wood Milk is bottled right here in the forest where the trees hit the dirt, which locks in the flavors like cherry, maple and of course mahogany,” Plaza says as asterisks appear on screen, reiterating the flavors as indeed wooden ones.

The ad is revealed by the end to be a parody concocted by MilkPEP, the same firm that came up with the “Got Milk?” campaign. This becomes a little more apparent after Plaza takes a swig of Wood Milk, leaving behind the trademark milk mustache — except it’s a little chunkier, with bits of wood pulp in it.

“Is wood milk real? Absolutely not. Only real milk is real.” Plaza says in closing. “Then what did I invest in?!”

Although Plaza has been a frequent source of the internet’s love and affection, enjoying a growing status as both a millenial and Gen-Z icon and frequent fancam subject, much of the response to the ad on social media was less than glowing.

The prevailing sentiment from those in comments sections is disappointment in the actor for hitching herself to Big Dairy’s wooden wagon, so to speak.

“The fact that this is actually a weirdly covert ad for the dairy industry is bonkers, aubrey plaza dairy propagandist,” tweeted one person.

“I’m so heartbroken y’all. Aubrey Plaza out here doing ads for the dairy industry trying to make fun of plant milks by shilling “wood milk”. The desperation,” another person tweeted, adding a sobbing emoji. “Aubrey how could you!”

“This Aubrey Plaza wood milk thing has made me so mad. It’s a marketing campaign for dairy milk paid for by got milk? who are a dairy industry marketing lobby,” wrote another Twitter user.

“Aubrey plaza working on an ad paid for by the dairy industry to make fun of plant based milks since more people have realized the impact large scale dairy farming has on the planet and arent buying their products is… f—ed up tbh,” someone else tweeted.

Representatives for Plaza did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“In a world where dairy milk is one of many choices, our fictitious Wood Milk brand is designed to encourage consumers to educate themselves on their beverage options and the differences in the nutritional profiles within,” Yin Woon Rani, MilkPEP’s CEO, tells TODAY.com. “While you may be able to make milk out of anything these days, not everything is created equal. We welcome the conversation and response.”

The critique has reached such a fever pitch that, because Plaza turned off the comments on her Instagram post of the ad, people are commenting on Plaza’s other, non-milk-related posts to express their dismay.

“Really disappointed that you’re not only endorsing dairy milk but also participating in an ad that mocks plant milks,” commented one user on Plaza’s Instagram on a post unrelated to the campaign. “Unfollowing.”

“‘Real’ milk has real victims,” one person commented on one of her unrelated Instagram posts. “Seems kinda cowardly to poke fun at non dairy alternatives and then turn off the comments.”

Still, there are those who have applauded the campaign, taking to social media to defend Plaza or share their positive feelings about the ad.

“I will drink any milk you tell me to, Aubrey plaza,” wrote a commenter on the TikTok of the ad, where several commenters are also calling Plaza “mommy.”

“She had me considering it for a second there……” someone tweeted.

“my new favorite national holiday,” wrote another Twitter user, who also made a fancam of Plaza using the ad, using the hashtag #woodmilknation, which has sprung up from fans in response to the ad.

As for who is leading the #woodmilknation charge, our best guess is Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman’s “Parks and Recreation” character), who would most definitely be applauding Plaza (April Ludgate) on her campaign.

John Stamos Recalls Getting the Olsen Twins Fired During Early Days of ‘Full House' https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/john-stamos-recalls-getting-the-olsen-twins-fired-during-early-days-of-full-house/3244335/ 3244335 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-93417078.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,199 John Stamos nearly altered the course of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s careers during their early days of “Full House.”

During an April 24 appearance on Josh Peck and Ben Soffer’s “Good Guys” podcast, Stamos said he got the girls fired early on in the “Full House” run when they wouldn’t stop crying on set.

“I did it,” he said.

Stamos explained that the Olsen twins were 11 months old at the time. He recalled filming a scene in the pilot episode in which he and Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone in the show, had to change baby Michelle, portrayed by the Olsens, while Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) was out.

“We’re carrying the baby downstairs and I think I was holding her on the armpits and Dave was holding her little feet, I think. And we take her into the kitchen and we hosed her down, we put a fan on her, wrapped her up in paper towels. She was screaming,” he said. “Both of them, they wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I. They were 11 months old, and God bless them. And they kept switching.”

Stamos said things got so bad that he just “couldn’t deal with it” anymore.

“I said, ‘This is not going to work, guys,’ and I screamed 10 times to get rid of them. ‘I can’t work like this,'” he said. “… And so they got rid of them.”

Stamos said the show replaced them with two redheaded kids who “weren’t attractive.” But Stamos eventually realized the show needed the Olsen twins on set.

“I said, ‘Bring the Olsens back. These kids are terrible!'” he recalled.

“It was a day or something, we tried the other kids, it didn’t work,” Stamos added.

When asked if the girls’ parents knew that he was the reason they were fired and then rehired, he said he didn’t know.

TODAY.com has reached out to representatives for the Olsen twins and the show’s production companies for comment.

Dave Hollis' Cause of Death Released 2 Months After His Death https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/dave-hollis-cause-of-death-released-2-months-after-his-death/3243992/ 3243992 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/AP23045792428022.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,210 Dave Hollis’ cause of death has been confirmed, months after the former Disney executive and the ex-husband of “Girl, Wash Your Face” author Rachel Hollis died at the age of 47.

Hollis died of “toxic effects of cocaine, ethanol, and fentanyl,” according to the autopsy report from the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in Austin, Texas, obtained by NBC News.

High blood pressure and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, which occurs when plaque builds up in the arteries, according to the National Institutes of Health, were also listed in the report as contributing conditions. Hollis’ manner of death was ruled an accident, according to the report.

The medical examiner report notes that, according to reports, Hollis was found unresponsive when authorities arrived at his home in February and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Per the M.E., Hollis had a history of high blood pressure, depression and alcohol and drug abuse. Hollis also had a “dilated and enlarged heart,” according to the report.

“Mr. Hollis’s underlying natural disease of the heart would have predisposed it to developing an abnormal rhythm, particularly in the presence of a stimulant drug such as cocaine,” the report said.

A family representative confirmed to TODAY.com on Feb. 14 that Hollis died peacefully at home on Feb. 11 in Austin, Texas, adding, “Though exact cause of death has yet to be determined, his family confirms he had been hospitalized recently for some heart issues.”

Hollis is survived by his four children — Jackson, Sawyer, Ford and Noah — whom he shared with his ex-wife. The two married in 2004 and announced their split in 2020.

Following her ex-husband’s death, Rachel Hollis asked for prayers in an Instagram post.

“We are devastated,” the author wrote. “I have no words and my heart is too broken to find them. Please wrap the kids up in prayers as we try and navigate through the unthinkable.”

In a Feb. 27 episode of “The Rachel Hollis Podcast,” she said her ex-husband’s death came as a shock.

“We still honestly don’t know what happened. I found out after the fact that he had gone to the hospital a couple of times because he was having heart problems,” she said. “So I think it’s really highly possible he had a heart attack but I don’t know and whatever he died from … we’re still in the same space, which is just deep grief.”

Dave Hollis left Disney in 2018 to work alongside his then-wife. He wrote two self-help books, “Get Out of Your Own Way: A Skeptic’s Guide to Growth and Fulfillment” and “Built Through Courage: Face Your Fears to Live the Life You Were Meant For.”

In 2022, he wrote a children’s book, “Here’s to Your Dreams!: A Teatime with Noah Book.”

Daniel Radcliffe and Girlfriend Erin Darke Welcome First Child https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/daniel-radcliffe-is-a-dad-harry-potter-star-and-girlfriend-erin-darke-welcome-first-child/3243788/ 3243788 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1385235104.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Here’s some magical news!

Daniel Radcliffe, 33, and his partner of more than a decade, Erin Darke, have welcomed their first baby, a rep for the “Harry Potter” star confirmed to TODAY.com.

The news comes after Radcliffe and Darke were seen walking around New York City with a stroller.

The couple did not share any further details about their baby’s name or arrival date.

Radcliffe and Darke, who met while filming the 2013 movie “Kill Your Darlings,” confirmed in March that they were expecting their first child

Darke is also known for her roles in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Good Girls Revolt” and “Dietland.”

The couple generally keep their personal life private, although Radcliffe has spoken in the past about his relationship with Darke, calling her the “love of my life” in a 2019 People TV interview.

He also revealed how their on-screen chemistry in “Kill Your Darlings” transformed into a real-life romance.

“Our characters are meeting and flirting with each other, so there is this sweet record of us just meeting for the first time and flirting,” he said.

He also opened up about his close bond with Darke in a 2014 interview with Us Weekly

“I think that’s the kind of relationship I always aspire to have with someone I’m in a relationship with. You want that person to be your best friend,” he said. “In the case of Erin, we definitely are.”

Radcliffe is not the first former “Harry Potter” child star to become a parent.

Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley in the beloved franchise, welcomed a daughter, Wednesday, in 2020 with longtime partner Georgia Groome.

Rumer Willis Gives Birth, Welcomes First Baby With Boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/rumer-willis-gives-birth-welcomes-first-baby-with-boyfriend-derek-richard-thomas/3243880/ 3243880 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/RumerWillis.png?fit=300,200&quality=85&strip=all It’s no rumor: Rumer Willis is a mom!

The actress welcomed her first baby with musician Derek Richard Thomas during a home birth on April 18, the couple announced on Instagram along with the bundle of joy’s name: Louetta Isley Thomas Willis.

“You are pure magic,” the duo captioned a photo of their baby girl on April 22. “You are more than we ever dreamed of.”

The little one’s arrival also means that Bruce Willis and Demi Moore—who share Rumer, Scout, 31, and Tallulah, 29—have officially become grandparents.

When Willis announced her pregnancy back in December, Demi couldn’t help but to share her excitement for a grandchild. “Entering my hot kooky unhinged grandma era,” the 60-year-old wrote on Instagram, prompting her oldest daughter to reply in the comments section, “Love you mama.”

And when Willis had an ultrasound appointment later that month, Demi was right by her side. “Saying hello to the little nibblet!!” the Charlie’s Angel: Full Throttle alum captioned a family photo taken at the doctor’s office. “Overjoyed for you, my sweet Willis. It’s an honor to witness your journey into motherhood, and can’t wait to welcome this baby into the world!”

2023 Celebrity Babies

In March, Demi teamed up with her younger daughters to organized a baby shower for Willis. The intimate gathering was attended by close friends and family, including Bruce and his wife, Emma Heming Willis, as well as their daughters Mabel, 10, and Evelyn, 8, per People.

In a March 21 Instagram post, Willis described the bash as “insanely magical.”

As for Willis’s sisters? They, too, have been waiting with anticipation for the family’s newest addition. “I’m desperately excited,” Scout told E! News at the Fashion Trust Awards on March 21. “Counting down the days.”

In fact, the singer said becoming an aunt helped bring out her inner knitter. “I’ve already made a little hat,” she added. “I did. I made a bonnet with bunny ears, that’s very cute.”

It may take a village, but this family’s already got it under control.

Melissa McCarthy Graces Cover of People for Magazine's ‘Beautiful Issue' https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/melissa-mccarthy-graces-cover-of-people-for-magazines-beautiful-issue/3243524/ 3243524 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2019/09/AP_798609301508.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,169 Melissa McCarthy is out front on this year’s People magazine “Beautiful Issue.”

The “Bridesmaids” star says being on the cover “felt like it was saying something really lovely to my younger self, to my 20-year-old self. Maybe to other people, too.”

People on Tuesday revealed McCarthy’s selection and the cover for the issue that hits magazine racks on Friday.

McCarthy, 52, recounted for the magazine her upbringing on a farm in rural Illinois and how she went through a punk phase, complete with a mohawk and blue hair, when she was in high school.

“I was fascinated because when I walked down the street and I looked like that, it was the first time that I’d ever had people kind of make fun of me or say really mean things to me, even adults,” she told the magazine. “I just kept thinking, you don’t know me, I didn’t do anything to you. It was a real big eye-opener that people are just judging left and right.”

McCarthy says it wasn’t until her 30s, when she met husband and producing partner Ben Falcone, that she started feeling comfortable with herself. The couple, who have two teenage daughters together, have been married since 2005.

The actor said she wants others to find similar peace of mind.

“When someone’s being their authentic self and it hurts no one else in the world… The simplest rule is just be kind,” she says.

McCarthy stars as the sea witch Ursula in Disney’s upcoming live action “The Little Mermaid,” which will be released in May.

The 75-year-old “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star, who is known for wearing all-black and exploring his neuroses onstage, posted a video Monday to Twitter explaining his various health issues.

“For the last three-and-a-half years, I’ve had sort of a rocky time,” he said, adding that he has suffered with back pain, and he had shoulder and hip replacement surgeries.

He also got a brain scan because he was shuffling his feet when he walked. Doctors diagnosed him with Parkinson’s. “Luckily, I got it late in life, and they say you progress very slowly if at all, and I’m on the right meds, so I’m cool,” he said. ”I’m finished with stand-up. I’m just focusing on writing and acting.”

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Blew Their $600,000 ‘Good Will Hunting' Payday on Cars and a Party House: ‘We Were Broke in 6 Months' https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/business/money-report/ben-affleck-and-matt-damon-blew-their-600000-good-will-hunting-payday-on-cars-and-a-party-house-we-were-broke-in-6-months/3242960/ 3242960 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/107229903-1682345463673-gettyimages-1272463055-br_damonaffleck202.jpeg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,240 Ben Affleck and Matt Damon not only shared a bank account when they were young, they went “broke” together, too.

In an appearance on the “Drew Barrymore Show” Friday, Affleck was asked about the joint account, which he and Damon shared as teenagers so they could pay for auditions.

“We would work a little bit — do extra work, do a line here or there, the occasional Burger King commercial — and then take that money and put it in the account,” he told Barrymore.

The “Argo” director revealed that the pair actually kept the account “into our 20s,” including when they were living in Los Angeles and working on the screenplay for the film that would make them stars: “Good Will Hunting.”

They sold the script for $600,000, a sum that Affleck said felt like an endless amount of money.

“I was like ‘We are now rich for life. My needs are over. I will never have to work again. I’m rich. Forever,'” he said.

Affleck said that he and Damon split the check evenly. The writing team was left with $110,000 each after agent fees and taxes were taken out.

“We each bought $55,000 Jeep Cherokees and then had $55,000 left, which naturally we decided to rent a $5,000 a month party house on Glencoe Way up by the Hollywood Bowl and we were broke in 6 months,” Affleck said.

But the pair didn’t stay broke for long. Their ‘Good Will Hunting’ script won them a Best Original Screenplay Oscar at the 70th Academy Awards and launched them into stardom.

They’ve since done well for themselves. As recently as 2020, Ben Affleck was earning as much as $55 million in a year, according to Forbes data.

Damon, meanwhile, has earned enough during his career that he was able to purchase Brooklyn’s most expensive home.

Pregnant Meghan Trainor Apologizes for Controversial Teachers Comment https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/pregnant-meghan-trainor-apologizes-for-controversial-f-teachers-comment/3243036/ 3243036 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1443241788.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Meghan Trainor says there are no excuses after being “careless with her words.”

The “Made You Look” singer recently sparked backlash after she commented “f— teachers” during a discussion on her podcast. Now, Trainor — who is mom to 2-year-old son, Riley, and is expecting her second child with husband Daryl Sabara — is sharing a message of atonement.

“Teachers of TikTok and teachers of the world, I recently said ‘f teachers’ on the podcast and it’s not how I feel,” she said in an April 23 TikTok. “I was fired up because we were talking about how sending your kid to school here in America is so horrific, and what all of us have to go through, but especially teachers is not normal and not okay.”

As Trainor — who reflected on her intent to homeschool her kids during the April 19 episode of “Workin’ On It with Meghan Trainor & Ryan Trainor” — noted, her comment came about while chatting with guest Trisha Paytas.

Stars Playing Teachers

“I knew her history with teachers, and I knew my husband’s history with his teachers, and I was bullied by some teachers,” the 29-year-old continued. “So, in that moment, I got angry and said ‘f teachers.’ F those specific human beings back in the day, but I did not mean that to all teachers.”

She added, “I love teachers, I fight for teachers. I think they have the hardest job and they are the most underpaid. They are the most unappreciated when they literally raise all of us. I don’t want to make excuses, and I’m just so sorry.”

The Grammy winner concluded her apology with a promise about reflecting on her thoughts moving forward. “I am so sorry to any teachers I made feel bad and I will remind myself that my words definitely could have a consequence,” she added. “And I will be more careful.”

In the caption of her video, Trainor also thanked the TikToker who made a now-viral stitch featuring the snippet from her podcast directly, writing, “I am sorry for being careless with my words. I LOVE teachers and I am here for you. Let’s work to make schools a better place together.”

Did Ed Sheeran Copy Marvin Gaye's Hit ‘Let's Get It On'? A Jury Will Decide https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/did-ed-sheeran-copy-marvin-gayes-hit-lets-get-it-on-a-jury-will-decide/3242732/ 3242732 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2022/10/GettyImages-1418619363.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,169 Jury selection and opening statements are set to begin Monday in a trial that mashes up Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” with Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.”

The heirs of Ed Townsend, Gaye’s co-writer of the 1973 soul classic, sued Sheeran, alleging the English pop star’s hit 2014 tune has “striking similarities” to “Let’s Get It On” and “overt common elements” that violate their copyright.

The lawsuit filed in 2017 has finally made it to a trial that is expected to last a week in the Manhattan federal courtroom of 95-year-old Judge Louis L. Stanton.

Sheeran, 32, is among the witnesses expected to testify.

“Let’s Get It On” is the quintessential, sexy slow jam that’s been heard in countless films and commercials and garnered hundreds of millions of streams, spins and radio plays over the past 50 years. “Thinking Out Loud,” which won a Grammy for song of the year, is a much more marital take on love and sex.

While the jury will hear the recordings of both songs, probably many times, their lyrics — and vibes — are legally insignificant. Jurors are supposed to only consider the raw elements of melody, harmony and rhythm that make up the composition of “Let’s Get It On,” as documented on sheet music filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Sheeran’s attorneys have said the songs’ undeniable structural symmetry points only to the foundations of popular music.

“The two songs share versions of a similar and unprotectable chord progression that was freely available to all songwriters,” they said in a court filing.

Townsend family attorneys pointed out in the lawsuit that artists including Boyz II Men have performed seamless mashups of the two songs, and that even Sheeran himself has segued into “Let’s Get It On” during live performances of “Thinking Out Loud.”

They sought to play a potentially damning YouTube video of one such Sheeran performance for the jury at trial. Stanton denied their motion to include it, but said he would reconsider it after he sees other evidence that’s presented.

Gaye’s estate is not involved in the case, though it will inevitably have echoes of their successful lawsuit against Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I. over the resemblance of their 2013 hit “Blurred Lines” to Gaye’s 1977 “Got to Give it Up.”

A jury awarded Gaye’s heirs $7.4 million at trial — later trimmed by a judge to $5.3 million — making it among the most significant copyright cases in recent decades.

Sheeran’s label Atlantic Records and Sony/ATV Music Publishing are also named as defendants in the “Thinking Out Loud” lawsuit. Generally, plaintiffs in copyright lawsuits cast a wide net in naming defendants, though a judge can eliminate any names deemed inappropriate. In this case, however, Sheeran’s co-writer on the song, Amy Wadge, was never named.

Townsend, who also wrote the 1958 R&B doo-wop hit “For Your Love,” was a singer, songwriter and lawyer. He died in 2003. Kathryn Townsend Griffin, his daughter, is the plaintiff leading the lawsuit.

Already a Motown superstar in the 1960s before his more adult 1970s output made him a generational musical giant, Gaye was killed in 1984 at age 44, shot by his father as he tried to intervene in a fight between his parents.

Major artists are often hit with lawsuits alleging song-stealing, but nearly all settle before trial — as Taylor Swift recently did over “Shake it Off,” ending a lawsuit that lasted years longer and came closer to trial than most other cases.

But Sheeran — whose musical style drawing from classic soul, pop and R&B has made him a target for copyright lawsuits — has shown a willingness to go to trial before. A year ago, he won a U.K. copyright battle over his 2017 hit “Shape of You,” then slammed what he described as a “culture” of baseless lawsuits intended to squeeze money out of artists eager to avoid the expense of a trial.

“I feel like claims like this are way too common now and have become a culture where a claim is made with the idea that a settlement will be cheaper than taking it to court, even if there is no basis for the claim,” Sheeran said in a video posted on Twitter after the verdict. “It’s really damaging to the songwriting industry.”

The “Thinking Out Loud” lawsuit also invokes one of the most common tropes in American and British music since the earliest days of rock ‘n’ roll, R&B and hip-hop: a young white artist seemingly appropriating the work of an older Black artist — accusations that were also levied at Elvis Presley and The Beatles, whose music drew on that of Black forerunners.

“Mr. Sheeran blatantly took a Black artist’s music who he doesn’t view as worthy as compensation,” Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney who represents the Townsend family but is not involved in the trial, said at a March 31 news conference.

Former ‘Dancing With the Stars' Judge Len Goodman Dies at 78 https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/former-dancing-with-the-stars-judge-len-goodman-dies-at-78/3242683/ 3242683 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-871325638.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Len Goodman, the urbane, long-serving judge on “Dancing with the Stars” and “Strictly Come Dancing,” has died, his agent said Monday. He was 78.

Agent Jackie Gill said Goodman “passed away peacefully,” without giving a cause.

A former dancer and British champion, Goodman was a judge on “Strictly Come Dancing” for 12 years from its launch on the BBC in 2004. The ballroom dancing competition, which pairs celebrities with professional dance partners, has become one of the network’s most popular shows.

Goodman was head judge on the U.S. version of the show, “Dancing With the Stars,” for 15 years until his retirement in November.

BBC director-general Tim Davie said Goodman was “a wonderful, warm entertainer who was adored by millions. He appealed to all ages and felt like a member of everyone’s family. Len was at the very heart of ‘Strictly’s success. He will be hugely missed by the public and his many friends and family.”

Goodman was also a recipient of the Carl Alan Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to dance, and owned the Goodman Academy dance school in southern England.

Morgan Wallen Cancels Concert Minutes Before Showtime After Losing His Voice https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/morgan-wallen-cancels-concert-minutes-before-showtime-after-losing-his-voice/3242659/ 3242659 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1456003762.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Thousands of country music fans were awaiting singer Morgan Wallen when he suddenly canceled his performance Sunday night at Vaught Hemingway Stadium in Mississippi.

WTVA-TV reported video boards inside the Ole Miss football stadium showed a message saying the “Thought You Should Know” singer had lost his voice and was unable to perform, adding that people would be refunded their money where they bought the tickets.

Some people expressed anger on social media because the announcement of the cancellation came after the opening acts had performed.

While Wallen is one of country music’s biggest stars, he’s no stranger to controversy. He was caught on camera in 2021 outside a home in Nashville, Tennessee, yelling profanities and a racial slur. He apologized at the time but was suspended indefinitely from his label and his music was pulled by radio stations and streaming services.

The year before, Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct after getting kicked out of a downtown Nashville bar.

The sudden cancellation concluded what was supposed to be two consecutive nights of performances by one of the hottest stars in country music. Saturday night’s show appeared to be a huge success with thousands showing up for the first concert in the stadium’s history.

Matthew Perry Says Keanu Reeves Won't Be Mentioned in Future Versions of His Memoir https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/matthew-perry-says-keanu-reeves-wont-be-mentioned-in-future-versions-of-his-memoir/3243303/ 3243303 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/image-1-15.png?fit=300,169&quality=85&strip=all Matthew Perry is making a change to his memoir.

Six months after Perry issued a public apology to Keanu Reeves for dissing him in the book “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” the “17 Again” star shared that future copies will not mention the John Wick actor’s name.

“I said a stupid thing. It was a mean thing to do,” Perry said of the Reeves lines during a panel at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on April 22. “I pulled his name because I live on the same street. Any future versions of the book will not have his name in it.”

As seen in excerpts of the book released in 2022, the “Friends” actor had mentioned Keanu while reflecting on a few deaths, including the passing of River Phoenix, who died of a drug overdose in 1993, and of Chris Farley, who passed away in 1997.

The Most Shocking Revelations From Matthew Perry’s Memoir

“River was a beautiful man, inside and out—too beautiful for this world, it turned out,” a section of his original memoir read. “It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”

After the excerpts were released, Perry told People in an Oct. 26 statement, “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”

During the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books event, Perry said he has yet to apologize to Keanu in person. “If I run into the guy, I’ll apologize,” he added. “It was just stupid.”

Country Singer Jimmie Allen and Wife Alexis Announce Split While Expecting Baby No. 3 https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/country-singer-jimmie-allen-and-wife-alexis-announce-split-while-expecting-baby-no-3/3243607/ 3243607 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1390933258.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,169 They gave it their best shot.

Country singer Jimmie Allen and wife, Alexis “Lexi” Allen, have broken up two years after their wedding, they said in matching statements on Instagram over the weekend.

The couple — who share daughters Naomi, 3, and Zara, 18 months — also revealed they are expecting their third child together amid the split. Allen is also dad to son Aadyn, 8, from a previous relationship.

“After much thought and reflection in recent months, Lex & I have made the decision to separate,” Allen said. “As we navigate this life change, we can also share that we will be welcoming another child together later this year.”

They said they are planning to work together on co-parenting their children.

“Our number one priority is and always will be ensuring that our children are healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to coparenting with love and respect for one another,” both continued. “In light [of] our growing family, we respectfully request privacy during this time.”

Jimmie Allen’s 2022 Bettie James Fest

Jimmie and Alexis got engaged at Walt Disney World in 2019 and welcomed their first child together in 2020, which coincided with another big moment in his musical career.

“I thought getting a No. 1 was going to be the best part of my day, but then my daughter, Naomi, was born,” Allen told “The Ty Bentli Show” at the time, People reported. The “Best Shot” artist added that they chose her middle name, Bettie, in honor of his grandmother.

Allen and Alexis went on to get married in 2021, after a delay due to the pandemic.

“With Alexis being from my hometown, it is like always having a piece of home with me. We had an immediate connection,” Allen previously told People. “It was like we’d always known each other.”

Kelly Clarkson Asks Jake Gyllenhaal If He's Had a ‘Real Job' https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/kelly-clarkson-asks-jake-gyllenhaal-if-hes-had-a-real-job/3242084/ 3242084 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1251933062.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,231 Kelly Clarkson almost found herself in the hot seat.

When interviewing Jake Gyllenhaal on her talk show, the singer drew laughter from the actor when she asked about his former day jobs before backtracking her words.

“Did you ever have any real jobs? Like, regular jobs?” she asked, before clarifying, “I mean, in life—a normal, average—I’ve had a lot of, like, normal jobs.”

In response, Gyllenhaal teased Clarkson by saying she was “digging” herself into a bigger hole.

“Being an actor is not—you play, it’s fun,” she said. “Being a musician, same thing. Not ‘fake,’ but—”

Despite poking fun at her, Gyllenhaal, who recently portrayed a sergeant in 2023 action movie “The Covenant,” said he understood what she was trying to say.

“I’m not in the military. I’m not police,” Gyllenhaal shared. “I’m not actually doing that thing; I’m playing it. So, it’s a little not real.”

And to answer her question, he revealed that he once had a stint as a lifeguard. However, the job came with some unexpected duties.

Kelly Clarkson Through the Years

“It wasn’t like ‘Baywatch,’ necessarily,” Gyllenhaal said in the April 21 appearance. “It was more like I guarded the beach, meaning there was a public beach and a private beach, and I had to tell people to not come onto the private beach.”

Referring to the position as more of a “boundary marker,” Gyllenhaal noted that not many people were happy with being told to move.

“Most of the times I had to get up and be like, ‘sorry,'” he recalled, “and then people were just pissed.”

But he also used some first aid skills, and his heroics one day came with a surprising twist when a beach-goer got stung by a Portuguese man o’ war jellyfish. Clarkson also chimed in with her own experience of getting stung by a jellyfish, noting that she had to pee on herself to relieve the pain, to which Gyllenhaal added, “That’s what I did.”

“You peed on yourself or someone?” Clarkson asked back, with the “Nightcrawler” actor explaining, “They told me that was what you had to do, and a person was in pain.”

But he set the record straight on what exactly went down.

“Well, I didn’t really pee on them,” he clarified. “I took some pee and … it was their choice. You do what you need to sometimes.”

E!, The Kelly Clarkson Show and this station are part of the NBCUniversal family.

Caitlyn Jenner Mourns Death of Mom Esther Jenner https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/caitlyn-jenner-mourns-death-of-mom-esther-jenner/3241976/ 3241976 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-480847460.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,215 Caitlyn Jenner‘s family has lost their beloved matriarch

The Olympian’s mom, Esther Jenner, died on April 20 at the age of 96. “I am heartbroken to announce my mom passed away yesterday morning, peacefully,” Caitlyn wrote in an April 21 Instagram post. “Losing a mother is unique in the sense that she is the only person that loved me my entire life.”

Esther’s death came “a few weeks shy” of her 97th birthday, Caitlyn shared.

“I will miss her tremendously,” the 73-year-old added in her tribute. “Love you mom.”

Fans were first introduced to Esther when Caitlyn appeared alongside ex Kris Jenner and their kids on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” appearing at various family functions. She went on to become a notable fixture on “I Am Cait,” the E! docu-series centered around Caitlyn’s journey as a transgender woman.

“It seems as though when people start to have more understanding, the stigma of being different goes away,” Esther said on one episode of the show. “To me, that’s the beauty of [Caitlyn] giving herself permission to do this because—like for any of us—once you’ve seen something over and over again, you get more used to it, right?”

Caitlyn Jenner’s Family Photos

Esther also joined Caitlyn as her special plus-one at the 2015 ESPYs, where the gold medal-winning decathlete was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. During her acceptance speech, Caitlyn credited her mother for being her source of strength.

“I always thought that I got my courage and my determination from my dad who landed on Omaha beach and fought all the way through World War II,” Caitlyn said at the time. “I’m realizing now, mom: I think I got all of those qualities from you.”

Esther is survived by friends and family, including granddaughters Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.

Scarlett Johansson Makes Rare Comment About Ex-Husband Ryan Reynolds https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/business/money-report/scarlett-johansson-makes-rare-comment-about-ex-husband-ryan-reynolds/3241923/ 3241923 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-102054956.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,240 Scarlett Johansson is giving us all a throwback.

During a recent conversation on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast, the host reminded listeners that Johansson had once been married to Ryan Reynolds in the mid-2000s.

“Oh that’s right!” Paltrow remarked, per the Daily Mail. “I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds! Goals!”

The “Black Widow” actress laughed at the recognition, noting, “Yes! We weren’t married very long,” to which Paltrow quipped, “It still counts!”

The Goop founder then confessed the “Red Notice” star is a fan favorite among her family with husband Brad Falchuk, sharing, “We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our home.”

And as Johansson put it, “He’s a good guy!”

Johansson and Reynolds, who were married from 2008-2011, have since both moved on, with Johansson marrying journalist Romain Dauriac in 2014—the exes are parents to Rose, 8—before splitting in 2017. Johansson then wed Colin Jost in 2020 and the two share 20-month-old son Cosmo.

Two years ago, Jost praised his wife in his 2020 memoir, “A Very Punchable Face,” writing that she has “a grace and a smile that I’ve still never seen in any other human.”

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost’s Cutest Pics

“I’ve met someone I love and who I feel more comfortable with than I ever have before,” the “Saturday Night Live” cast member continued. “I feel more confident committing to what I’m working on and standing by whatever I create, regardless of whether people like it or not.”

As for Reynolds, he and Blake Lively have been together for over a decade after tying the knot in 2012, and the couple—who just welcomed their fourth child together in February—are also parents to James, 8, Inez, 6 and Betty, 3.

Back in 2016, the “Deadpool” star reflected on the life he’s built with the “Gossip Girl” alum while receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I want to thank my wife Blake, who is sitting right there, who is everything to me,” Reynolds said in his acceptance speech. “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You make everything better. You make everything in my life better. You’ve given me two of the most incredible children I’ve ever hoped to have.”

‘Love Is Blind' Production Company Responds to Contestants' Allegations of Neglect https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/love-is-blind-production-company-responds-to-contestants-allegations-of-neglect/3241012/ 3241012 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2022/03/GettyImages-1209210338.jpeg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Content warning: This story discusses suicide.

Love Is Blind” is being accused of turning a blind eye to its contestants.

Season two alums Danielle Ruhl and Nick Thompson were among several stars from the dating show who claimed they were deprived of food, water, sleep and mental health assistance during filming. In an April 19 Insider report, cast members said they suffered physical and psychological breakdowns as a result of the alleged neglect, with one unnamed contestant describing their on-set experience as “emotional warfare.”

In response to the article, Kinetic Content—the production company behind the Netflix series—said in a statement to E! News, “The wellbeing of our participants is of paramount importance to Kinetic. We have rigorous protocols in place to care for each person before, during, and after filming.”

E! News has reached out to Netflix for comment but hasn’t heard back.

In the Insider report, contestants also claimed they were required to film up to 20-hours a day, during which they were frequently provided alcohol but rarely saw sunlight and had little time to sleep.

All the “Love Is Blind” Relationships That Happened Off-Camera

“The sleep deprivation was real,” season one’s Danielle Drouin told the publication. “I feel like they do it on purpose because they’re trying to break you. They want you on your edge.”

Meanwhile, Ruhl recalled how she fainted during the show’s pod period—when contestants would be secluded in individual capsule rooms as they mingled only through speakers—because she said she hadn’t eaten, slept or had enough water that day. After a COVID-19 test taken at the behest of a crew member came back negative, Ruhl claimed she was rushed in front of the camera for a confessional rather than be sent for further medical attention.

“That was it,” she said. “I had to go right back into it.”

Ruhl also alleged that producers ignored her pleas for mental health help when she suffered a panic attack while filming with then-fiancé Thompson in Mexico.

“I kept telling them, ‘I don’t trust myself,'” she said. “‘I’ve tried committing suicide before. I’m having suicidal thoughts. I don’t think I can continue in this.'”

Thompson, who tied the knot with Ruhl at the end of their season, told Insider that he received little assistance from producers when their marriage began falling apart off-camera.

“I literally begged for help, and I didn’t get it,” he said. “Like, I want to fix my marriage that you’ve thrust us into for profit. And it was nothing.”

Ruhl ended up filing for divorce in August 2022 after one year of marriage. Thompson claimed the only communication he got from producers at the time was a phone call assuring him that he wouldn’t be sued, even though his contract forbade him from seeking a divorce until the final episode of his season aired.

“It was brutal,” he said of the breakup’s aftermath. “That’s when I started to crumble mentally.”

As for Ruhl, she’s still reeling from her appearance on “Love Is Blind” and has attended trauma therapy to process what happened.

“I don’t think that I’ve felt myself since before filming,” she shared. “I’m trying to re-find who I am because it f–ked with me so much.”

“On April 19, ASTRO member Moonbin suddenly left us to become a star in the sky,” the agency’s message, translated to English, began. “Although we cannot compare our sorrow to the grief that the bereaved families are feeling, losing a beloved son and brother, the ASTRO members, fellow Fantagio artists, company executives, and employees are deeply mourning the deceased in great sadness and shock.”

“It is even more heartbreaking to deliver this news so suddenly to the fans who have supported Moonbin and sent him their love,” their statement continued. “We are heartbroken because we know the feelings of the deceased, who always loved and thought of his fans more than anyone else.”

Bill Hader Confirms Romance With Ali Wong After Months of Speculation https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/bill-hader-confirms-romance-with-ali-wong-after-months-of-speculation/3239024/ 3239024 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/HADER-WONG.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,169 We have no beef with this couple: Ali Wong and Bill Hader are dating!

After months of speculation, his rep told “Entertainment Tonight” that the “Barry” actor and the “Beef” star are an item.

In fact, the rep noted that Hader, 44, and Wong, 40, are “dating again,” confirming the pair has reunited after a reportedly brief romance in late 2022.

The “Saturday Night Live” alum even addressed his relationship status in a recent interview by referencing his “girlfriend.”

“My girlfriend and I were just figuring out that I haven’t had a vacation in 10 years,” Hader told Collider during a discussion about his career. “I went with her to San Francisco, but that doesn’t really count. So, I’m going to have a vacation.”

“I need to go into sponge mode, where I’m watching stuff and reading,” he added. “Even during the pandemic, I was so stressed out and paranoid that I couldn’t really focus on anything. So, it’s more about trying to get into a better [headspace]. I meditate, but every time I sit down to meditate, I end up passing out and falling asleep. I think I just need a break.”

The pair’s romance comes one year after a rep for Wong confirmed her split from her husband of eight years, Justin Hakuta.

“It’s amicable,” a source previously told E! News of the former couple, who share kids Mari, 7, and Nikki, 5, “and they will continue to co-parent lovingly.”

As for Hader, he and ex-wife Maggie Carey are parents to daughters Hannah, 13, Harper, 10, and Hayley, 8. (Hader and Carey called it quits in 2017 after 11 years of marriage.)

In recent years, Hader has been linked to “The O.C.” actress Rachel Bilson and “Pitch Perfect” star Anna Kendrick. But don’t expect Hader to share too much about his private life. Why? To protect his kids.

“They just want me to be their dad,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in March 2022. “They just want me to sit and watch ‘Encanto’ over and over and over again. So that’s what I do.”

Jessie James Decker Slams United for Forcing Pregnant Sister to Clean Kids' Mess on Flight https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/mlb-player-blasts-united-airlines-for-making-pregnant-wife-clean-up-daughters-spilled-popcorn/3238522/ 3238522 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/image-18-1.png?fit=300,169&quality=85&strip=all It’s no use crying over spilled popcorn.

But a few kernels on the floor of an airplane caused a social media debate about parenting and entitlement after Sydney Raw Bass, the wife of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass and sister to country superstar Jessie James Decker, was made to pick up popcorn spilled by her 2-year-old daughter while on a recent United Airlines flight.

In a since-expired Instagram Story, Decker said her sister was “humiliated” while traveling alone with her and Anthony Bass’ two daughters, ages 2 and 5.

“My sister @sydneyraebass just texted me from her flight on @united. As you know, she is five months pregnant, high-risk, and also traveling alone with her two small children. Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle, and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop,” Decker wrote.

She continued, “My poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle, completely humiliated and exhausted, with her children while everyone else watched. Way to go, United.”

Anthony Bass also posted about the incident in a Twitter post Sunday.

The incident and their posts sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing that United should be responsible for cleaning it up while others coming to the airline’s defense, saying that Sydney Bass should clean up after her children.

“Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made?” one person responded on Twitter. “As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them.”

“The cleaning crew they hire!” Bass replied.

“I see a cleaning crew enter the plane every time I get off of one. You don’t think other people spill things? Or you think everyone cleans up after themselves when they do?” another person wrote.

Some baseball fans used the incident to dish digs at the 35-year-old relief pitcher, who has played for seven teams during his 12-year career, and struggled early this season with a 7.11 ERA over 6 1/3 innings pitched. Shortly after his rant, the term “7.11 ERA” was trending on Twitter.

“So throwing garbage runs in the family?” one person tweeted.

Decker also clarified on her Instagram Story that United Airlines was the one to give her nieces the popcorn. The flight attendant, according to Sydney Bass, said it had to be picked up because it was a safety hazard.

“You guys, this whole time I’m thinking that this popcorn is something Sydney just picked up at the little newsstand. Sydney had two flights, and United, on the first flight, they gave them both popcorn,” Decker wrote. “If popcorn is a hazard, why are they giving it on planes?”

United Airlines responded to Bass’ Twitter post and the pitcher later confirmed in a tweet that the airline is “taking care of matters with the flight attendant internally.”

He and Syd Bass announced last month that they are expecting a third child, a baby boy, due this summer.

The “I’m Good” singer took to Twitter on April 16 with a message about those who have an interest in her weight. Rexha shared a screenshot of a TikTok, where the trending search bar inside the comment section read, “bebe rexha weight.”

“Seeing that search bar is so upsetting,” Rexha, 33, wrote in her April 16 tweet. “I’m not mad cause it’s true. I did gain weight. But it just sucks. Thank you to all the people who love me no matter what.”

Rexha’s post was met with support from fans, with one user writing, “Weight shouldn’t be anyone’s concern unless it’s their own. I don’t understand the obsession with other peoples bodies. You can gain or lose as much weight as you want and I’ll still think you’re one of the hottest woman out there.”

Meanwhile, another wrote, “I don’t know if we will ever get to a point as a society where people just learn to have basic decency and quit pointing out or criticizing someone else’s weight/body, but I truly wish that one day we will get there. You’re beautiful, Miss Bebe!”

Rexha has previously taken to social media to discuss her body image. Back in 2021, she posted a TikTok that shared a message on how her weight at the time impacted her confidence.

“So it is the holidays and I know we’re all supposed to be, like, merry and like, ‘Yay, it’s the holidays,’ which I am…ish,” Rexha began. “I think I am the heaviest I have ever been. I weighed myself just now and I don’t feel comfortable sharing the weight ’cause I feel embarrassed. It’s not just about that. I just feel disgusting, you know, like in my own body.”

At the time, Rexha shared that her feelings towards her appearance led her to step back from using social media.

“I haven’t been posting as much because I don’t feel good in my skin and when I don’t feel good, I don’t want to post and that’s really honestly the reason I haven’t been posting in the last year or so as much as I used to,” she shared. “I think all the body positivity that stems from me is probably a place of hurt and confusion. I don’t know how to help myself anymore or how to love myself.”

The vulnerable message was also met with an outpouring of love and support from fans. One viewer wrote, “Thank you for being so incredibly honest. You are a beautiful soul inside and out.”

Emma Watson Shares Rare Insight Into Her Private Life in Birthday Message https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/emma-watson-shares-rare-insight-into-her-private-life-in-birthday-message/3238520/ 3238520 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/AP22259164414320.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,197 Emma Watson is reflecting on a magical few years.

While celebrating her 33rd birthday April 15, the Harry Potter alum gave a rare look into her private life.

“This is 33. Holy moly,” she captioned a series of black-and-white images taken the year before. “Before 29 I hadn’t even heard of a Saturn Return as a concept. Let’s just say that now I am well acquainted.” (For those unaware, Saturn Return means the planet Saturn returned to the same place and degree it was at the time of someone’s birth.)

Watson, who hasn’t appeared in a major onscreen role since 2019’s “Little Women,” also detailed what she’s been up to since maintaining a profile outside of the public eye.

“I stepped away from my life,” she shared. “I learned to surf (badly), I rode some horses (that went better), I did a lot of therapy (YESS therapy!)”

The time has also been filled with personal changes and professional growth, such as directing her first commercial for Prada’s Paradoxe Fragrance Campaign, as well as shooting 2022’s “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.”

Emma Watson Through the Years

“I said goodbye to my Grandma and Grandpa,” she continued. “I retraced my steps. I started a women’s environmental investment fund. I played Pickleball with Sugar Ray Leonard and I even played golf and then tried to make all of my girlfriends learn too. I cut my thumb nail off on both hands trying to cook for myself and then was only able to do things one handed for months.”

Emma—who sparked romance rumors with Brandon Green last August—further reflected on her past emotions and how she’s becoming a better version of herself.

“I felt really sad and really pissed off about a lot of things,” she wrote. “I learned more about love and being a woman. It took me three years but I have finally figured out a daily practice and can actually keep it for more than a few days in a row. I burned some things down. I eat green things now! I got obsessed with making Squarespace websites. Today I feel [butterfly emojis].”

She thanked the “witches in my coven” who were “so pivotal” in helping her get to where she is now. As for who is in her group of close friends, Emma dropped a series of emojis representing them: a wizard, sunflower, mermaid, ninja, deer, eye, cherry blossom, owl, desert, karate uniform and rose.

“You are my Avengers and you inspire me and kick ass,” she concluded her message. “It takes a village, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

See Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba in ‘Wicked' First Look https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/see-ariana-grande-and-cynthia-erivo-as-glinda-and-elphaba-in-wicked-first-look/3237700/ 3237700 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/cynthiaerivo-arianagrande.png?fit=300,169&quality=85&strip=all What is this feeling? That would be pure awe over these photos.

Fans now have their first look at Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in their respective Wicked movie roles as Glinda and Elphaba—and it’s wickedly incredible.

On April 16, the film’s official Instagram page shared two photos, one of Grande donning a pink gown while walking up a wooden staircase and one of Erivo holding a broomstick while wearing a black witch hat and a matching dress.

Director Jon M. Chu shared those very snaps to his own Instagram the same day, along with a message about the highly-anticipated movie adaptation.

“You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road?” he wrote. “FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz.”

As for when viewers will get the full look at this project? The film will be arriving in theaters November 2024—a month earlier than originally planned.

Cynthia Erivo’s Best Looks

“We are deep into production on WICKED and everyday we get more and more excited to share with u the mischief we’ve been up to,” Jon wrote in a March 14 tweet. “So…We’ve decided to get it to you all a little earlier than planned. OUR NEW RELEASE Date is NOV 27th 2024! A little Thanksgiving treat!”

Later in March, Grande’s brother Frankie Grande exclusively told E! News’ Francesca Amiker about his sister’s audition process, and the moment she told him she landed the role.

“She worked very, very, very, very, very hard on the audition process and she would let me in afterwards and tell me how each one of them went,” Frankie Grande recalled. “I remember when she told me that she booked it, we just both burst into tears together. Because it was something that she had been dreaming of her entire life.”

Indeed, it’s safe to say that dream come true has exceeded her expectations. On April 3, Ariana Grande penned a message on what production has been like.

“Savoring every millisecond left with my Galinda (although she’ll be with me irrevocably, forever),” Ariana Grande wrote. “She shows me so many new things every day. i am so grateful, i don’t know what to do or say… to be here in Oz where everyday is a life changing one… to be feeling, learning and growing so much at such a disarming speed… to feel so much love around me, to begin each day before the sun is up and to end after it sets… to hold my brilliant twin flame / sister Cynthia’s beautiful, green hands every day… to work in the safest, most beautiful and loving, biggest-yet-most-intimate/tiny-feeling spaces.”

Erivo responded to Ariana Grande’s passionate words by writing in the comment section, “My sweet sweet sister. I love you so so much, this time has been so transformative, I can not imagine my life without you in it!! More beautiful days in Oz ahead, and more in our lives !!! Stuck with me!!”

Adele Crashes Boyfriend Rich Paul's Twitch Livestream With Hilariously Sweet FaceTime Call https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/adele-crashes-boyfriend-rich-pauls-twitch-livestream-with-hilariously-sweet-facetime-call/3237450/ 3237450 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1463278313-e1681604856499.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Rich Paul had a sweet interruption during a recent livestream, courtesy of Adele.

Paul was in the middle of a livestream with the content creator Kai Cenat Thursday, April 13 when he received a FaceTime call from his girlfriend of nearly two years.

In a clip shared on Twitter, Paul answered the call on the livestream and viewers were able to hear Adele tell the sports agent, “Hey baby.”

The 41-year-old let the “Hello” singer know that he was in the middle of a livestream and would call her back later, to which she asked, “What are you streaming?”

Paul said he was streaming with Cenat, who appeared in shock before he waved to the camera and greeted Adele, who replied back in a cheery tone, “Hi darling!”

Adele and Paul went public with their romance in 2021.

In July of that year, the couple were photographed attending an NBA game together, just two months before she made their relationship Instagram official in September.

The 34-year-old singer told Vogue that the couple initially met at a party where she made a joke about him signing her because she was “an athlete now.” Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in November 2021, Adele said that the couple ultimately reconnected at dinner, which Paul referred to as a “business meeting.”

Describing Paul to Winfrey, Adele explained, “He’s just hilarious. Oh, he’s so funny, he’s hilarious, yeah. And very smart. You know, he’s very, very smart. It’s quite incredible watching him do what he does.”

Though Adele and Paul remain fairly private about their relationship, they have given fans rare glimpses into their romance over the years.

The “I Drink Wine” singer has publicly refuted rumors that the couple have split, as well as shared photos on social media that capture some of the sweet moments in their romance.

In an Instagram post in May 2022, Adele shared photos of the couple together. One snap captured the couple holding keys as they posed in front of a house, while another showed what appeared to be a Valentine’s Day date at McDonald’s.

“Time flies,” Adele simply captioned the post.

Desperate Housewives Child Star Madison De La Garza Recalls Eating Disorder at Age 7 https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/desperate-housewives-child-star-madison-de-la-garza-recalls-eating-disorder-at-age-7/3238188/ 3238188 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/Eva-Longoria-Madison-De-La-Garza.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,169 Content warning: This story discusses eating disorders.

Madison De La Garza is looking back on the traumatic experience she faced as a child star.

The 21-year-old, who played Eva Longoria‘s daughter Juanita Solis on Desperate Housewives, got candid about the online hate she received over her physical appearance on the show, and how it led her to develop an eating disorder.

“I would spend hours and hours reading comments,” she recalled on the April 11 episode of the Heart of the Matter podcast. “They said things like they wanted me to die because of what I looked like. It was like, ‘Ugly fat cow. And I hope you get cancer and die because you’re so fat.’ And just horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible things. And this is when I was 6, 7, 8 years old.”

De La Garza shared that at the time, she wasn’t allowed to use the computer unsupervised, but she snuck around her parents to go online.

Desperate Housewives: Where Are They Now?

“Reading comments like that definitely affected my mental health and ultimately played into me developing an eating disorder at a very young age,” she shared. “My first memories of trying to starve myself, I was 7 years old. A lot of it came from reading those comments. My family had no idea that this was going on. My mom had no idea that I was seeing these things, that I was reading these things, because I was very, very sneaky about it.”

She added, “I was also very good at hiding and throwing away meals then saying that I ate them. And a lot of this happened while I was at school, so there was no way for my parents to know that I was restricting.”

De La Garza, who is Demi Lovato‘s half-sister, recalled times she starved herself and endured “months of struggling with a binge-eating disorder.”

Now, the Pink Elephant director says she is about two years into recovery. However, she feels it is a life-long process.

“I don’t think it’s something that will ever be completely gone or it will ever completely be fixed,” she said. “It’s something that you have to continue to work on for the rest of your life. It does get easier, of course, but it will always be there.”

Looking back on working with her Desperate Housewives co-stars while receiving such hate, De La Garza shared that she and Longoria never spoke out the online comments together.

“We never explicitly talked about it, but she definitely went out of her way to make me feel like I was pretty and like I was special,” De La Garza said. “And she made me feel like I was family. And if I ever did want to go to her with these things, I absolutely could have.”

But De La Garza shared that she did not wish to address what was being said online. “I felt so ashamed that these comments were even being written, I didn’t even want to talk about [it],” she recalled. “On the off chance they hadn’t seen the comments, I didn’t want to be the one to bring it up.”

Despite feeling that way then, De La Garza declared, “It’s different now.”

“I have learned to talk about it because I think it’s incredibly important for people to know how bad cyberbullying can be and just how the unthinkable is actually happening today,” she said. “And I think it’s really important that people are aware of that so they can look out for it and protect this next generation of children.”

Guitarist Mark Sheehan of Irish Band the Script Dies at 46 https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/guitarist-mark-sheehan-of-irish-band-the-script-dies-at-46/3237359/ 3237359 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/AP23105366337809.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Ireland’s president has led tributes to Mark Sheehan, guitarist with Irish rock band The Script, after his death at the age of 46.

The band said Sheehan died in a hospital on Friday after a brief illness. In a statement, The Script called him a “much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend.”

Formed in Dublin in 2001 by Sheehan, singer Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power, The Script topped U.K. and Irish charts with its self-titled debut album in 2008. It included the hits “We Cry,” “Breakeven” and “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” which reached No. 1 in five countries.

The band’s pop-inflected rock sound made it one of Ireland’s biggest bands in the 2010s. The Script went on to have six Top 10 albums in the U.K. and one top three album in the U.S.

Irish President Michael D. Higgins praised the band’s “originality and excellence” and sent condolences to Sheehan’s family.

“Through their music, Mark and The Script have played an outstanding part in continuing and promoting this proud tradition of Irish musical success across the world,” Higgins said.

Sheehan is survived by his wife, Rina Sheehan, and their three children.

Jessica Chastain Returns to Theater With ‘A Doll's House' https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/jessica-chastain-returns-to-theater-with-a-dolls-house/3237220/ 3237220 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/AP23103706274427.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,198 Jessica Chastain counts her performance as Nora in the current Broadway revival of “A Doll’s House” to be one of the “hardest things” she has ever done.

Coming from the actor who has played televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker and country singer Tammy Wynette, that’s saying a lot.

The two-hour play was so emotionally draining to perform, she said, that she wanted to skip the final bow.

“I’ve come out for the curtain call, not ready for the curtain call, and that’s been difficult,” Chastain said.

But after speaking with director Jamie Lloyd, she rallied and decided it was important for the audience.

“There are times I go out there and I’m like, trying to hold it together. And I’m still feeling like the play course through my veins,” she said.

The Oscar-winning actor is currently appearing in a limited run of the groundbreaking 1879 Henrik Ibsen play that challenged the sacredness of marriage, gender roles, and women’s rights. It was so controversial for its time that many actors would not perform the play’s ending.

Chastain saw the subject as a worthy reason to return to the stage because it still resonates today with conversations about representation and authenticity.

Earlier this week, Chastain sat down with the Associated Press for a special interview where she spoke about the emotional demands of the play, the importance of examining people’s struggles, and what she’s thinking about, sitting on stage when the audience enters the theater.

Responses have been edited for brevity and clarity.

___

AP: How challenging was it to perform in such a scaled-down version of the play? Jessica Chastain: Oh, it’s so difficult. The director, he was very smart in the way that he, like, held information back from me because we knew we were doing this for a long time. And then as rehearsals came closer, he started to give me a little information about, like, maybe no props — and I was like, what is happening?

AP: It’s quite minimalist. Chastain: I remember one time, very early on, I said to Jamie (Lloyd), ‘I don’t understand how to do this. I mean, in the play it says that I enter the stage and I’m eating cookies, and then (turn) right immediately.’ I said, ‘I say to someone (a castmate), I would never do that.’ So that’s important that the audience knows that. Like, obviously in the beginning I’m not being truthful because I go, ‘How do I do (pretend I’m eating) if I don’t have the cookies?’ (Lloyd says) ‘’Because you do it with your acting.’ It’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. This idea of, like, trapping me in one place and stripping me from any kind of tool. It feels quite bare.

AP: When Ibsen wrote this play more than a hundred years ago, it was controversial and some actors would not perform the ending. Does it go beyond talking about woman’s oppression in the 19th century, to relate to today? Chastain: Absolutely. It’s this great piece of feminist literature, but it’s I think the way Jamie has staged it and thought about it, and the way Amy’s adapted it, it goes beyond gender. It really speaks to anyone who is playing a part to please a person, in order to have power in a society that denies them freedom and agency. And in doing so, you’re upholding the system that denies you freedom and agency. I learned a lot about myself by playing Nora. Like, in what ways do I deny my feelings or deny who I am to try to make others happy in order not to cause any waves? And I think many people could probably relate to that.

AP: The show begins when we walk into the theater and you are already sitting on stage. What are your pre-show thoughts? Chastain: I’m going into the character of Nora. I’m already starting to feel a little trapped and stuck. You know, I’m in the house and I’m also connecting to the audience. So, I’m looking at everyone in their eyes. I’m connecting to them energetically. It’s the beginning of creating almost like this sacred space. I’m letting them know: I can see you. I value you. You’re in this with me. And we’re going to go on this journey together. This is a joint experience.

AP: As an actor that always seems to be working, why was this play important to dedicate your time to, eight times a week? Chastain: I think anything that I put my energy into, I’m asking myself, ‘What am I putting into the world?’ What am I putting out to the world, in terms of this message to the public that maybe, hopefully, inspires people when they come to the play. Are they going to reexamine their lives and how they’re living their lives? And then thirdly, what am I going to learn about myself? It’s going to be really challenging for me. And this for sure, checked every single box.

AP: Nora goes through a lot in the performance, how emotionally draining is it to play her? Chastain: Thank goodness I get to start in a quiet, up, energetic, happy, playful way. She really does go through some kind of a mental breakdown in the middle of the play, and then she rebuilds herself from that. It’s such a beautiful journey, as an actress, to get to do that. But there are often times I’ve come out for the curtain call, not ready for the curtain call, and that’s been difficult. I’ve actually asked the director if it was possible for me to not do a curtain call because I felt like I needed a moment to calm down from the last scene. I’ve wondered about Nora just leaving. And Jamie helps me understand that the curtain call is not for me, it’s really for the audience. So there are times I go out there and I’m like, trying to hold it together. And I’m still feeling the play course through my veins.

Matthew McConaughey Says He and Woody Harrelson Might Really Be Brothers https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/matthew-mcconaughey-says-he-and-woody-harrelson-might-really-be-brothers/3236867/ 3236867 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1059322484.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,207 Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson might be even closer than they think.

After all, the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor recently caused a stir with the jaw-dropping revelation that he and his longtime friend Harrelson could actually be related as half-brothers. Until now, McConaughey believed he was born to Mary McCabe and James McConaughey in 1969, whereas Harrelson was born to Diane Oswald and Charles Harrelson in 1961. However, McConaughey is questioning whether Charles, who died in 2007, might have been his father, too.

“Where I start and where [Woody] ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line,” McConaughey said in an April 11 episode of the “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” podcast, per Variety. “And that’s part of our bromance, right? My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him.”

Matthew McConaughey’s Best Roles

Their similarities were further brought into question when McConaughey’s mom, a 91-year-old author, dropped a bombshell that she knew Harrelson’s dad, who was a convicted hitman.

“In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families,” McConaughey added. “And my mom is there, and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’ Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after ‘knew.’ It was a loaded K-N-E-W.”

The eyebrow-raising comments prompted a family investigation into the matter.

“We went on to unpack what this ‘knew’ meant and did some math and found out that [Woody’s] dad was on furlough at the same time that my mom and dad were in their second divorce,” McConaughey explained. “Then there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a ‘knew’ moment.”

McConaughey and the “Hunger Games” alum have not yet taken a DNA test to settle the matter once and for all, and it looks like it might not happen anytime soon.

“Look, it’s a little easier for Woody to say, ‘Come on, let’s do [DNA tests],’ because what’s the skin in it for him?” McConaughey said. “It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take a chance to go, ‘Wait a minute, you’re trying to tell me my dad may not be my dad after 53 years of believing that?’ I got a little more skin in the game.”

Today's Hoda Kotb Shares Deeply Personal Response to Being Mom-Shamed https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/todays-hoda-kotb-shares-deeply-personal-response-to-being-mom-shamed/3236836/ 3236836 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/HodaKotb041223Getty_1920x1080_2193051715701.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,169 Hoda Kotb is opening up about a horrific piece of hate mail she once received.

The Today co-anchor, who is mom to daughters Haley, 6, and Hope, 3, recently recalled receiving a handwritten note at her home criticizing her for starting a family later in life.

“I opened the letter and it was something along the lines of, ‘How dare you bring a child into this world at your age? Don’t you know what you’re doing to that child?’ Like, it went on and on,” Kotb, 58, recalled on the NBC morning show. “It took my breath away because that actually was my ouch. I was scared. Like, is this something that is smart for me to do? Am I helping or am I going to ultimately be harming? Like, I’ve thought about that.”

Kotb, who adopted Haley and Hope with now-ex Joel Schiffman and co-parents them with him, continued, “And when I read it, I thought, someone took a pen and sat at a table and put it and wrote that down and got a stamp and mailed it. Like, went to all that trouble to say that to me.”

Hoda Kotb’s Sweetest Moments With Her Kids

She explained that the letter made her reflect on her experience with losing a parent following the death of her dad, Abdel Kader Kotb, in 1981 when she was in college.

“I remember thinking, we have our parents for a period of time,” Kotb noted. “I know the foundation he left. I know it was worth every second of that time. So I thought about that too. It can hit you in a place where you’re the most vulnerable.”

Since getting candid about that mom-shaming letter, the journalist has received a slew of supportive messages on the social media.

“That’s just shameful!” one person wrote on Today With Hoda & Jenna’s Instagram page about the letter author. “You’re doing a great job with your precious babies and no one knows how much time any of us have.”

Another user commented, “It’s better to be cared for and loved for any amount of time than to never be loved at all.”

Since adopting Haley in 2017, Kotb has often opened up about her parenting journey on Today.

Earlier this year, she took some time off from the show to care for Hope after she was hospitalized for an undisclosed health issue. In March, just after the journalist returned to work, she thanked fans for their support.

“Thank you …for all of your beautiful words and prayers,” she wrote on Instagram. “I have read them all. You have no idea how much it means to me and my family. I am so profoundly touched.”

Drake Bell Breaks Silence on Mystery Disappearance https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/drake-bell-breaks-silence-on-mystery-disappearance/3236684/ 3236684 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1163271773.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,213 Drake Bell is offering an explanation for his disappearance.

Hours after being searched for and found by authorities, the Nickelodeon alum addressed the incident.

He wrote on Twitter April 13 alongside a laughing emoji, “You leave your phone in the car and don’t answer for the night and this?”

The “Drake & Josh” star didn’t provide any other comment or details of the incident.

Earlier in the day, Florida’s Daytona Beach Police Department issued a missing persons alert on Facebook for Bell, who hadn’t been seen since April 12 at around 9 p.m.

“He should be traveling in a 2022 grey BMW and his last known location is potentially the area of Mainland High School,” read the post, accompanied by a picture of the 36-year-old. “He is considered missing and endangered.”

Four hours after the initial message, officials declared Bell had been found, adding, “We can confirm law enforcement officials are in contact and Mr. Bell is safe.”

Nickelodeon Stars Then and Now

E! News has reached out to Bell’s rep for comment.

Bell’s last public appearance prior to his short disappearance occurred on April 11 when he and his son were spotted at SeaWorld in Orlando. Bell shares the 2-year-old with estranged wife Janet Von Schmeling, who People reported in January had separated from the actor as he sought outpatient treatment for substance abuse.

This is not the first time Bell has experienced a run-in with law enforcement.

In July 2021, Bell was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service in Cleveland court after pleading guilty to attempted child endangerment.

“Today I accept this plea because my conduct was wrong,” he said in a statement prior to his sentencing. “I’m sorry that the victim was harmed in any way — that was obviously not my intention. I have taken this matter very very seriously and again I just want to apologize to her and anyone else who may have been affected by my actions.”

He is also known for his roles on “Drake & Josh,” “Ultimate Spider-Man” and “The Amanda Show.”

Anne Perry, Crime Writer With a Murderous Past, Dead at 84 https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/anne-perry-crime-writer-with-a-murderous-past-dead-at-84/3236403/ 3236403 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-583664440.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Anne Perry, the best-selling crime novelist known for her Thomas Pitt and William Monk detective series and for her own murderous past that inspired the movie “Heavenly Creatures,” has died at age 84.

Perry died Monday in Los Angeles from complications of a stroke and several heart attacks, according to her literary agent in North America, Donald Maass.

Perry published more than 100 books, often set in Victorian England, with notable works including the novels “Death of a Stranger,” “Buckingham Palace Gardens” and one scheduled for September, “The Traitor Among Us.” She sold millions of copies and received some of the top honors for crime writing, among them an Edgar Award for the short story “Heroes” and an Agatha Award for lifetime achievement.

But another story, one of lasting notoriety, came from her own life.

Born Juliet Hulme, she was a London native whose diagnosis for tuberculosis led her family to seek a warmer climate, eventually settling in New Zealand. In school, she formed an intense friendship with classmate Pauline Parker. But in her mid-teens, in 1954, her parents were divorcing and she was told she would be moving to South Africa.

The two girls were devastated: In their despair, they plotted against Parker’s mother, Honore Parker, who had refused to let Pauline join Juliet in South Africa. The girls conspired to go on a picnic with Honore, reached an isolated place in a Christchurch park and murdered her, beating her repeatedly with a rock.

Because they were minors, the girls were spared the death penalty and instead each served five years in prison. Perry would later explain she felt obligated to help her friend, whom she feared might take her own life.

“She threatened to kill herself if I didn’t help,” Perry told The Guardian in 2003. “She was vomiting after every meal and losing weight all the time. I am sure now she was bulimic. I really believed she would take her life and I couldn’t face it.”

Director Peter Jackson, a New Zealand native, would draw upon the murder for “Heavenly Creatures,” a 1994 release that starred Kate Winslet as Juliet and Melanie Lynskey as Pauline.

Perry would later call prison “the best thing that ever happened” to her, a time for her to confront and acknowledge her actions. She renamed herself Anne Perry, moved to Scotland, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked various jobs, including retail sales and as a flight attendant, before fulfilling a longtime dream and becoming a published writer.

Her first novel, “The Cater Street Hangman,” came out in 1979 and unveiled the husband-and-wife detective team of Thomas and Charlotte Pitt.

Years later, Perry began her Monk books with “The Face of a Stranger,” featuring the memory-impaired sleuth William Monk.

“I began the Monk series in order to explore a different, darker character, and to raise questions about responsibility, particularly that of a person for acts he cannot remember,” she wrote on her website. “How much of a person’s identity is bound up in memory? All our reactions, decisions, etc. spring from what we know, have experienced. We are in so many ways the sum of all we have been!”

Survivors include a brother, Jonathan Hulme.

Lady Gaga to Co-Chair Biden's Star-Studded Arts and Humanities Committee https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/lady-gaga-to-co-chair-bidens-star-studded-arts-and-humanities-committee/3236344/ 3236344 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/AP23103788691408.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 The White House on Thursday announced a star-studded slate of members for the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, a panel of artists, museum professionals, academics and philanthropists that serves as an advisory board to President Joe Biden on culture issues.

The group will be co-chaired by Bruce Cohen, an Academy Award-winning producer known for films such as “American Beauty” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” and pop megastar and Grammy Award winner Lady Gaga, also known as Stefani Germanotta, according to the White House.

Others tapped to the committee include musician Jon Batiste, who performed at the White House state dinner in honor of French President Emmanuel Macron in December, television producer Shonda Rhimes, Grammy Award winner Joe Walsh, and actors George Clooney, Jennifer Garner, Troy Kotsur and Kerry Washington. It also includes one former member of Congress: Democrat Steve Israel, who represented New York in the House.

Tsione Wolde-Michael, the committee’s executive director, says it is “positioned to do meaningful work that will positively impact the arts, libraries, museums, and public humanities work in communities across the country.”

Many of the members appointed to the arts and humanities committee have previously partnered with Biden on key issues, such as Gaga on the “It’s On Us” campaign to battle sexual assault on college campuses. Veteran television producer Marta Kauffman, who was also selected for the committee, hosted first lady Jill Biden at her home for a fundraiser in September.

Jeremy Renner Makes First Red Carpet Appearance Since Snowplow Accident https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/jeremy-renner-attends-premiere-of-new-series-after-snowplow-accident/3234791/ 3234791 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1481543137.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,207 Jeremy Renner attended the premiere for his new series Tuesday, capping a remarkable recovery less than four months after the “Avengers” star was nearly killed in a snowplow accident.

Renner was surrounded by family and supporters at the “Rennervations” premiere in Los Angeles, where he posed for photos and did interviews, at times making use of a cane and a knee scooter. At one point he flashed photographers a thumbs up sign while moving down the carpet.

Renner was crushed by his 7-ton snowplow on New Year’s Day while trying to help free a relative’s car at his Nevada home. The actor has said he broke numerous bones and suffered a collapsed lung and pierced liver in the accident.

“Rennervations,” which premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, follows Renner as he transforms large vehicles into community spaces for young people in India, Mexico, Chicago and Nevada. The purposes range from serving as a mobile music studio to a water filtration truck for a community in India.

Renner said his aim was to give young people access to things they might not already have and present opportunities they might not know existed.

Renner wrote the theme song for the show, something he did while working on another show.

“I use music and piano to write songs and use it like therapy for me,” he said.

Construction and music have been creative outlets for Renner, who is best known for playing the superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel “Avengers” films and his own spin-off TV series.

Marvel co-star Anthony Mackie appears in the show, and Renner said the secret to their friendship is they “laugh a lot.”

Renner, a two-time Oscar nominee, told Diane Sawyer in an interview that aired that while he thought he might die from his injuries, he refused to be “haunted” by the accident.

Ariana Grande Addresses ‘Concerns' About Her Body https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/ariana-grande-addresses-concerns-about-her-body/3234708/ 3234708 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1235451581.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Ariana Grande is speaking out about body image.

The pop star got candid on TikTok regarding fan “concerns” about her body, noting that she wanted to talk about “what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to.”

“I know personally for me, the body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body,” Grande said of images from previous years. “I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my ‘healthy.’ But that in fact wasn’t my ‘healthy.'”

Previously, Grande has been open about battling anxiety, depression and the post-traumatic stress disorder she suffered after the 2017 Manchester bombing attack.

Though the singer said she “shouldn’t have to explain” her body, she hopes “something good” will come out of her “vulnerability,” noting that “healthy can look different” for everyone.

Ariana Grande’s Style Evolution

“You never know what someone is going through,” she added in the April 11 video. “So even if you are coming from a loving place and a caring place, that person probably is working on it or has a support system that they are working on it with, and you never know, so be gentle with each other and with yourselves.”

As she continues filming “Wicked”, she asked fans to be “gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what.” And even if the remarks are “well intentioned,” Grande added that “we just shouldn’t” speak on physical appearances.

“There are ways to compliment someone—or to ignore something that you see that you don’t like—that I think we should help each other work towards,” she continued. “Just to aim towards being safer and keeping each other safer. There are many different kinds of beautiful. There are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful.”

She concluded her message by lightheartedly pointing out that she’s not “wearing eyelashes or eyeliner right now,” before joking, “this is my face, these are my eyes so don’t freak out about that now too, please.”

Grande—who married real estate broker Dalton Gomez in 2021—ended with an empowering message to fans.

“I think you’re beautiful no matter what you’re going through,” she said. “No matter what weight, no matter how you like to do your makeup these days, no matter what cosmetic procedures you’ve had or not, or anything, yeah I just think you’re beautiful and wanted to share some feelings.”

Millie Bobby Brown is engaged to Jake Bongiovi, she seemingly revealed on Instagram April 11 alongside a black-and-white photo of the couple — as well a gorgeous diamond ring on that finger. The “Stranger Things” actress captioned her post with lyrics to Taylor Swift‘s song, “Lover,” while Bongiovi — the son of singer Jon Bon Jovi — simply wrote, “Forever.”

E! News has reached out to Brown’s rep for comment and has not heard back.

This relationship update comes two years after Brown, 19, and Bongiovi, 20, first sparked romance rumors while stepping out hand-in-hand in New York City.

Since that time, the duo has shared a glimpse inside their romance via social media. In fact, on New Year’s Day, Brown gave a sweet shout-out to Bongiovi on Instagram.

“endlessly in love with the year I’ve had! grateful for my friends, family, donkey (bernard), my doggies, my puppies teeth, and my partner for life,” she wrote. “here’s to another year with you and the wonderful people and animals around us let’s do it again but better!”

18 Facts About Millie Bobby Brown

The following month, for Brown’s 19th birthday, Bongiovi penned a message to his leading lady.

“Another year around the sun together happy 19th to the girl of my dreams,” Bongiovi captioned a series of photos with Brown. “I love you more than words can describe. Everything about you is golden down to the core.”

Jennifer Garner Hasn't Seen Any of Those Ben Affleck Memes https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/jennifer-garner-hasnt-seen-any-of-those-ben-affleck-memes/3234202/ 3234202 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1247396755.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,202 Jennifer Garner doesn’t run on Dunkin’ memes.

The “13 Going on 30” star revealed that she has not seen the many internet memes made of her ex-husband Ben Affleck.

As for why Garner avoids looking at the comical posts? She isn’t interested in seeing memes or headlines about him — or herself for that matter.

“I really work hard not to see either of us in the press,” she recently told Stellar Magazine, per Cosmopolitan. “It doesn’t make me feel good, even if it’s something nice about one of us. I just try to forget that I’m out there in any way, and the same with anyone I love. I don’t need to see anyone in my family made into a meme.”

With that being said, Garner noted of Affleck, “I’m sure he’s quite meme-worthy, yes!”

Indeed, Affleck has become a meme many a time — notably when he was captured struggling to hold his hefty Dunkin Donuts’ order. In fact, Affleck even ended up starring alongside now-wife Jennifer Lopez in Dunkin Donuts’ 2023 Super Bowl commercial.

Jennifer Garner’s Best Roles

Affleck and Garner wed in 2005 and went on to welcome children Violet, 17, Seraphina, 14, and Samuel, 11, before finalizing their divorce in 2018.

Back in 2021, Affleck candidly spoke about their split, saying, “Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped.”

“I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?'” he told Howard Stern at the time. “And what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”

Despite drifting apart, Affleck noted that their breakup was handled with respect.

“We did it amicably. We did our best,” he said. “Did we have moments of tension? Did we have disagreements over custody? Was stuff difficult for us? Did we get angry? Yes, but fundamentally it was always underpinned with a respect.”

In March, Affleck addressed those very quotes in his cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, saying that his words were “mischaracterized” in order to make “clickbait.”

“I was trying to say, ‘Hey, look, I was drinking too much, and the less happy you become, whether it’s your job, your marriage, it’s just that as your life becomes more difficult, if you’re doing things to fill a hole that aren’t healthy, you’re going to start doing more of those things,'” he added. “I think I was pretty articulate about that.”

Affleck noted of Garner at the time, “We loved each other. We care about each other. We have respect for each other.”

While Garner has found love with businessman John Miller, Affleck married J.Lo in July.

Though the former couple are no longer romantically involved, the pair do co-parent together. J.Lo gave insight on their co-parenting dynamic during an interview with Vogue published in November, noting that Affleck and “The Adam Project” actress “work really well together.”

Shakira Begs the Paparazzi to Stop Following Her Children https://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/shakira-begs-the-paparazzi-to-stop-following-her-children/3234068/ 3234068 post https://media.nbcdfw.com/2023/04/GettyImages-1245262890.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&fit=300,200 Shakira is begging the paparazzi to stop targeting her children in the aftermath of her breakup with Gerard Piqué.

“In this period of change in my life as a public figure, it’s understandable that there is a permanent curiosity on behalf of the press around me and my family,” the Colombian singer tweeted on April 10. “However, my children Milan and Sasha have endured a very difficult year, suffering incessant harassment and persecution without relief by the paparazzi and several media outlets in Barcelona.”

Shakira recently moved from Barcelona to Miami following her breakup from the soccer star. They have two sons, Milan, 10 and Sasha, 8.

With her children beginning “a new life,” Shakira tweeted in both Spanish and English, “I implore the media on behalf of my children to please respect their right to privacy. I beg you to abstain from following them to the entrance and exit of their school, wait for them at the door of our home, or follow them to their extracurricular and recreational activities as the media did in Barcelona with the intent of capturing photos or boosting ratings.”

Shakira asked if the media “can behave in the most humane way possible with them, keeping in mind that this is about the physical and emotional health and safety” of her children “who only want to be able to go out in public and attend school feeling safe and tranquil that they aren’t being followed or subjected to the constant scrutiny of cameras.”

The “Whenever, Wherever” singer concluded: “I extend this petition not as an artist but as a mother who wishes to protect and care for the psychological and emotional wellbeing of my children so they may live a happy and healthy life, as all children deserve to do.”

NBC and TODAY do not publish paparazzi photos of children, as a general rule.

In June 2022, Shakira and Piqué told TODAY.com in a statement, “We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we request respect for privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

A few months later, Shakira opened up about the “incredibly difficult” aftermath for her family in an interview with ELLE

“I have paparazzi camping outside, in front of my house, 24/7. And there’s not a place where I can hide from them with my kids, except for my own house,” she told the publication. “You know, we can’t take a walk in the park like a regular family or go have an ice cream or do any activity without paparazzi following us. So it’s hard.”

Shakira said her sons did not “deserve” the media attention in Barcelona.

“It’s just a total circus, and everyone is speculating about all of these aspects of our, and more importantly our children’s, lives, and a lot of it isn’t even true,” she said. “Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children. We have a job to do for these two incredible boys, and I have faith that we will figure out what is best for their future, their own dreams in life, and what is a fair solution for everyone involved. And I hope and would appreciate if we were given the space to do that privately.”

Shakira declined to comment on speculation that Piqué is dating Clara Chia Marti. “I think that those details are somehow too private to share, at least at this very moment — everything is so raw and new,” she told ELLE.

In February 2023, the singer told Mexican journalist Enrique Acevedo that after previously believing “that a woman needs a man to complete herself, a family,” she is standing on her own two feet.

“Now I feel complete because I feel that I depend on myself and I also have two children that depend on me,” she said, “so I have to be stronger than a lioness.”
